Sankalpa Shakti –This word is also used for determination many a times. Sankalpa here means the rise of a thought, the power of thoughts. Every thought that is born is like a wave in an ocean, and has its magnetic power. It draws to itself positive or negative circumstances. The more positive our thoughts, the more power we possess and vice versa. Attention should be paid by us every time we think and to our quality of thoughts. We should discard the evil, bad and weak thoughts. In their place cultivate and nurture positive, constructive, creative and healthy thoughts.
Sankalpaor thoughts never die. They are stored in the akash as records. Meditate intensely and receive God’s will. The sankalpaor wish of God is immortal, God’s will is final!!
Your own thoughts cause you excessive miseries, your own understanding makes you perform low or high grades of performances and acts.
The thoughts or sankalpa as we may address, should be governed by you and nobody else. You are the master and have the key to determine whether you wish to sow poisonous weeds or sow a tree. Germinate if you pious seeds you shall finally open that holy door.
Shri Kartikeyan Swami enlightened me by adding something more to my assemblage of spiritual knowledge. Before his advent, I saw bright Light in my inner view. It was very dense and conformed to the fact that indeed his stature is phenomenal.
“A soul suffers in every life because of its own shortcomings. It is born hundreds of times because of vasanas or desires or ahankar or ego.
A good yogi will remove these two great barriers automatically with his or her own desire.
Those who do not listen to their conscience, take endless re-births and prolong their sufferings, mental and spiritual both and do not even know how to bring an end to their own untold misery.
You have taken the shortest time to evolve and blossom and therefore are in bliss and continuous joy.
Those who are now awaking and have woken up after such endless incarnations are still in agony because their awakening is also painful. They will take much longer time to rise up and flourish in the realm of the Spirit. It is because human beings have poor quality of thoughts. It is our Sankalpa or power of thought which will catapult us to doing extraordinary actions in spite of all hurdles or obstacles in Nature in all lives.
It is because of the power of our thoughts that we shall be able to perform those actions which are conducive in realizing our Self.
Accordingly, I discovered to my sheer delight that Swami Kartikeyan’s mastery is that he has done tremendous research on the inception of the thought (Sankalpa), life of a thought and the working capacity of the thought in a human being.
And I concluded that whatever we think and whatever our thoughts are, they are absolutely bound to manifest one day somewhere in future.
Very strong and positive mind will create a new ‘shrishti,’ a new world for you. If more and more people do pious and generous actions, the collective thought power of the world will increase many times. The mission of all the saints is to increase the collective thought power of masses in all nations and it begins at individual level.
Regular periods of purification, prolonged periods of meditation and continuous efforts of cleansing are required of all humans to salvage their souls of their incessant darkness and lack of wisdom and truth.
If you practice each day even with a little effort, your soul can redeem itself so that it can shine with brightness of Satya, Dharma and Shudh Karma-Truth, righteousness and pure actions.
Manasor mind- In every individual jeeva there is present manasor loosely called mind. A fragment of the Universal light is present in the individual. Out of this fraction, a little portion of the Universal Force and Light is present in the manas or mind. The mind is shaped in accordance to type of actions performed by the individual. It is the manasthat feels and perceives and it has its own light, dim or bright depending on the person. The manas also has its own power depending on how well we behave, think and act. The type of actions performed by us is responsible for the type of force that enters our mind. It entirely depends on the quality and type of actions performed by the individual thus attracting either negative or positive forces.
Corrections: At juncture of 32.48 mins, instead of unconscious mind the right word is conscious mind. There are 3 levels in our mind conscious (gross), sub conscious (subtle) and unconscious (very subtle). Correspondingly-sthool, sukhshma, kaaran in Hindi.
“I will give you so many blessings that you will not be able to hold or store. I will reward you with such wonderful insights and knowledge greatest because your thirst for my home and my creation is undying and unquestionable. I will gift you with unfathomable skills, proficiency and dexterity that the world will stare but not dare to bow you down. There will come a time in history when man will say that nobody has lived so well a short life made so precious and regal with faintest resources and meanest behaviour from closest quarters and so much more. A bright lamp was lit in the darkest place and all resources came from her within! Who can deny you, who can buy you?”
-Consciousness develops best through work done as an offering to the Divine.
-Indolence and inaction end in tamas; that is a fall into unconsciousness; it is contrary to all progress & light.
-To overcome one’s ego, to live only in the service of the Divine.
-I make no difference between work and Yoga. Work itself is Yoga if it is done in a spirit of dedication & surrender.
-When one works for the Divine, it is much better to do perfectly what one does than to aim at a very big work.
-The progress in sadhana comes from the rectification of inner and outer attitude, not from the nature of the work one does-any work, even the most humble can lead to Divine if it is done with the right attitude.
Q-What is concentration?
A-It is to bring back all the scattered threads of concentration to a single point, a single idea. Those who can attain perfect attention succeed in everything they undertake; they will always make a rapid progress. And this kind of concentration can be developed exactly like the muscles; one may follow different systems, different methods of training. Today we know that the most pitiful weakling, for example, can with discipline become as strong as anyone else. One should not have a will which will flicker out like a candle.
The will, the concentration must be cultivated; it is a question of method, of regular exercise. If you will, you can. But the thought, “What’s the use?” must not come in to weaken the will. The idea that one is born with a certain character and can do nothing is stupid.
I think the most important thing is to know why one meditates; this is what gives the quality of the meditation and makes it of one order or another.
You may meditate to open yourself to the divine Force, you may meditate to reject the ordinary consciousness, you may meditate to enter the depths of your being, you may meditate to learn how to give yourself integrally; you may meditate for all kind of things. You may meditate to enter peace and calm and silence-this is what generally people do, but without much success. But you may also meditate to receive the Force of transformation, to discover the points to be transformed, to trace out the line of progress. And then you may also meditate for very practical reasons: when you have a difficulty to clear up, a solution to find, when you want help in some action or other. You may meditate for that too.
I think everyone has his own mode of meditation. But if one wants the meditation to be dynamic, one must have an aspiration for progress and the meditation must be done to help and fulfill this aspiration for progress. Then it becomes dynamic.
A Note- For further reference reading, I have posted some more articles from Fb in the following post here. They were meant to reinforce what I had spoken in the Discourse on 16th December, 2017.
Water has inherent electricity, power inside it. Similarly man’s thoughts also have energy embedded in it depending on the will power, type of actions done and the nature of the person.
A thought is born in the mind. When it is born, it is like a small bubble about to burst. If one does not pursue or carry forward that positive thought for it to manifest, then it dies out.
If the thought-bubble is applied with the will of the mind ofthe doer, it starts to enlarge gradually and becomes large enough with the power of the will and the power inherent in the thought itself in the first place. SankalpaShakti, Thought Power is a power given to man by God for good intents and reasons.
We must observe our thoughts in order to make ourselves in charge of their strength. And also to keep in check thetremendous force that they can give usespecially the negative, weak and damaging thoughts. Negative force arising out of the negative and weak thoughts should be negated completely.
The mind has the power of God but we believe that it is I who is the doer. This type of situation and act is delusion and must be avoided strongly since we are liable to entangle ourselves in the stream of energy in the mind inconclusively. Beware of this ego and deception.
“Silence and peace, more silence, more peace you shall get if you let go of your past grips or anchors and merge yourself completely in the silence of your Atma. When you come in touch with your Atma, you are in complete restfulness and calmness.
Human being should also constantly remain clean in mind and Atma. The day the man understands that this world is a reflection of God, a playground; he will begin to love God more. You shall also see this miracle if you consolidate your mind.
You should try very hard and make all efforts to know the Truth; never get tired in pursuing it. Trust in yourself and after invoking the God realized Gurus, complete your work fast so that you can finally rest forever and attain bliss as benediction which is beyond the senses. The persons who dedicate themselves wholly in believing and knowing God, they procure a paradise within themselves while they are alive and they do not have to go anywhere else. You all should together make this world a believer in Truth and come in the counting of those people because of whom this world’s welfare is achieved. May God give you Truth in your intellect, may you do truthful actions and may you live in Truth.”
Submission of all worldly desires and removal of all egos in an individual is the stage from where God allows itself to be recognized and emerge. These two delusive states of mind do not allow God to emerge since they erect a wall of opposition between the devotee and God himself. Any want that relates to the delusive and temporary world changes, the state of mind of the seeker of almighty God, since pursuing those desires and substantiating the false self-image in the form of ahankar or ego pulls him out towards the pursuance of those objectives. In this pursuit, the mind goes away from the point where God is realized and understood- and that point is within.
Our manifested lives are a direct shadow of our own created sankalpas or thoughts. Whatever we do with our senses and mind in the physical world as actions are first of all created mentally in an unconscious or conscious state of mind. Conscious state of mind is the one which is aware of God’s presence within and actions are done with that presence. On the contrary, unconscious state of mind is that consciousness of a human being who has made a wall between him and the presence of God in its being with his ego and desires. When all of a sudden the man realizes that his stature is of no significance and God’s all powerful presence is the thing that should not be ignored, the meltdown begins. The ice thaws and starts to melt until a stage when all the ice melts and there stands no wall or door that blocks the startling presence of God in oneself. We all must come at least up to this state of consciousness to avoid the bickering of one’s mind, to escape the milling and beating of the jeevatma’s incessant incarnations as there is no escape.
Direct contact and touch with God’s presence is a must for those who wish to concur and agree in all forms with the Sankalpa or wish of almighty God. God’s wish has so much force, power and energy in it that it is in every sense irrepressible. How can one escape the will of God if one’s own desire has no life of its own? When the vacuum, which is created by the absence of all desires and the deterrent ego falls and crumbles, all the space that is left inside is filled up with just one thing-God’s personal space. Such a space within oneself has the command and directives of the powers of only God and nothing else. From within arise benevolent ideas and noble objectives, which flourish and nourish in masses and have very remarkable consequences on the Earth………
Foot Notes– Please note that my discourses are exclusively for a private audience. There are problems attached to it. We cannot conduct a programme for the masses and to keep privacy, we are compelled to use our own rooms in the hotel as a hall for the small gathering. Also, using banquet halls for a divine purpose is a taboo.
As I conduct discourses in many destinations, it becomes a new challenge every time. We have to face many problems on the spot every time for making videos and audios. But by grace, somehow we always manage to solve all problems in all the events and the outcome is good. All my focus is in delivering a good message and answering all questions related to sadhana of all participants present there as well as the viewers of the blog.
This recording was done in very limited resources yet we succeeded. My gratitude to all Spiritinlife participants for their co-operation and support 24X7 during such a passionate pilgrimage. It shall always be etched in my mind!
May we all be always devoted to a great cause such as Self-Realization!!
This is the last set of audios of this series. We did 3 posts. 1. When God wills. 2 What God wants from us and 3. In blessed moments with Agastya Maharishi-I, II.
This is an important audio as it takes us to the higher realm or kingdom of the blazing enlightened Maharishis or very great knowers of the Truth. Though narrative, it still gives very important lesson to humanity-
The worst enemy of man is desire, ichcha. So many rishis also fall in the trap created by deception of one’s mind because of lack of light inside. It is in this sansara or world that man makes mistakes and it is in this world that he returns back again and again to suffer self-created miseries after miseries. Mostly people learn only from making grave mistakes, they do not learn quickly for they are always in a deep slumber…..
My dear readers, very splendid and special Diwali greetings to you!
Like many previous Diwali days, I have been absorbed completely in the process of compiling a new post. It is a remembrance and gift to all true seekers on this day; to light the lamp of their Spirit within.
We are still continuing with the series of Bangalore discourses. It was a long-drawn-out Discourse day on which we took up three posts, the last one had two parts. Two from Fb and two parts of a post from Spiritinlife.blog. We had also gone to Manasa Foundation and had group meditation on 17.09.17. On Face book there is a post and the synopses of the same event.
We purchased many valuable books from the book store of that place. We discussed a few things amongst ourselves and found so many similarities between what I have written in my posts here on the blog and what Guruji has been saying in his writings with precision and brevity. I have been reading his other great contributions to the world as books, about the Rishi world and the workings of their constant endeavours to uplift the humanity.
I see great convergence and conjunction points, maybe you will also see it when you study books of Guruji’s personal journey or his research or his path breaking contribution to modern world about higher realities of Spirituality.
When I reached back home on 17th of September from Bangalore after concluding the event, the following day in my meditation I was called again to Manasa on 17th October by Guruji Krishnananda. He had very important things to say to me. I agreed respectfully.
I left very early on Tuesday, 17th October, 2017 on Dhan Teras day and returned multiple times richer and prosperous on that night!
The plan was perfect. There was not a single human there. I meditated alone in his samadhi room for more than an hour. I heard him out attentively and took all personal instructions carefully. There was a purpose, a very big purpose for which he summoned me. Ever since I have returned, he has opened many doors of Higher Realms which I had not known before. Very important past life episodes and connections were revealed by him and his own Guru, Amara Maharishi today early morning. I see a clear image and can very well connect with these two great ancient Maharishis! We have met earlier a few times and now wish to fulfil a very high purpose of life together by working on common projects of human welfare and well-being!
Synergy in invisible form!
This blog takes a huge stride once again and we all are witnessing a huge surge in the spiritual lives of ours!
I just finished reading his very important book-Doorways to Light. I could only get a hold on it after he blessed me on 17th and asked me to read it again. It is his autobiography with pieces of great realisations as a gift to humanity. We only need to look into the priceless wisdom and follow in our life. They have asked me to quote some excerpts from a book which follows soon.
I will never shy from telling the world that Guruji Krishananda and Amara Maharishi, whom I was never acquainted with before in this life have, been from very far watching over me and supplying their mental powers to make me arrive at a life-altering point of my current stage of destiny.
Through some co-incidence in 2012, I for the first time came to know about Guruji but made no effort whatsoever to find him personally. Yet in the last five years, events are automatically being planned and executed by the Higher Forces. I have visited Manasa four times now. Progressively, I have gone into an upper world or higher realm where none are entitled!
I see a perfect plan by God and the Rishis silently working behind this physical realm. I foresee some more benevolent events for the welfare of the world in this conjunction and coincidence. I owe them much more than I have ever thanked them. Yet, they are so unconditionally loving us for unknown, myriad years!
Dear revered readers, Bangalore Discourse was concluded on 17th September 2017. 4 posts were taken up for discussion on 16th September in long sessions. First two were from Face book and the rest two were from WordPress. They were-
On 17th morning we went to Manasa Foundation, Taponagar for a group meditation after which we all dispersed for our destinations.
Many of us bought enriching books by Guruji Krishnananda from the book shop. They are very useful for the senior as well as junior aspirants.
The audios are about 6 hours in duration. A lot of stress was given on the post ‘When God Wills’ as it demanded a lot of explanation and clarification. Audios of this post are about 4 hours.
There was a brief session of questions and answers.
In November another Discourse and pilgrimage is being undertaken with a large group in Madurai soon.
Before we have another Satsanga or Discourse in November, we will over a month listen to the audio files of Bangalore Discourse. In October starting from today on Dussehra festival, I will intermittently upload 5 files of these 4 posts. In between whenever relevant I would like to insert some passages from the writings of Guruji Krishnananda to fulfil the purpose of synergy and collaboration and thereby radiating higher energies for our rapid evolution.
We will begin today with a short file of introduction and start up. After 2 days there will be second audio file in the same post. There will be a separate post for next post ‘What God wants from us?’ By 30th October we shall have all the audio files of different durations and we shall conclude the Bangalore Discourse.
Side by side, a post of synopses will be shared on Fb with some very calming pictures of Manasa Foundation just after this.
Your comments are valuable for all of us. Please use these posts as Home Lessons and derive as much benefit as you can and expedite your current progress.

Who is a Rishi?
A few passages from Doorways to Light by Guruji Krishnananda of Manasa Foundation, Taponagar, Bangalore. (pl ref post of 30.09.17 on Fb about our visit recently)
17.08.17– Today, intense spiritual energies have been embedded again in these words.
I meditated in early hours. Shri Mahavatar Babaji, Guru Gorakh Nath, a Holy Banyan Tree of Himalayas and a divine holy Rudraksh tree this early hour during Brahma Muhurat appeared before me. The time was too quiet, concentrated and tranquil at 5 am. Their blessings touched me gently and their guidance came to bless us all as I heard the last part of this audio. They advised us to follow this guideline-
Advised-Kindly listen to this audio first on Saturday, 19.08.17 any time in one flow and continuity. Then listen to the last one hour only where questions and answers and last paras of the above mentioned post are recorded between 4 am to 6.30 am for full advantage on Sunday 20. 8.17.
Maintain silence and calmness, maun on these days.
Revert only after full absorption is achieved; take more time till thoughts and precepts get crystallized well.
When born, every individual brings with him wisdom acquired by him from his previous lives. That is Previous knowledge or Purva Gyan. And Present knowledge or Vartaman gyan is the wisdom that we are acquiring in our present life.
The wisdom that we have carried forward in this life gets corrupted in the company of worldly, unwise, evil and lethargic people. By coming in constant companionship and interaction, we imbibe obtuseness, vices and impurities. So keep away from evil, vicious, greedy and immoral people. Benefit from the company of learned and wise. Enjoy silence and solitude……
Discourse on this post in Bangalore on 4th June, 2017

Bhajan in MP3
Updates and notice-
Dear all, this post has come after a reasonable gap. However, we were busy in dealing with older posts from WordPress but they were taken up on Fb starting from Guru Purnima on 9th July 2017 and ending on 16th July for a week. They were from Segment-Our lost rich heritage. I chose those posts which were not heeded since the beginning and whoever devoted time to them were blessed and gained so much. In these posts, I included devotional songs here and there which were related to the topic but in the comment box. That eases the strain on the mind and gives us tremendous joy and even spiritual bliss to many. Those who have not yet availed the good opportunity may please do so.
There are many posts as poems posted on Fb which are difficult to decipher and understand. I took up one such post in Bangalore on 4th June 2017 and that explains the reasons why we should heed to our intuition and submit our mana or mind at the Holy Feet of the Spiritual Masters. And what happens after that has also been described in earlier posts like this one-Why is it important to submit the mind at the Lotus Feet of the Holy Master or Guru? (Fb post no 247 in index dated 21.08.16). This post will be dealt with in the upcoming another Bangalore Discourse on 16th Sept, 2017.
At some point of time, I took up a series of bhajans in 2016 between 27.07.16 and 02.08.16. They were 7 in number as Day 1 to Day 7 on Facebook. As the series of bhajans as posts were hard to comprehend, I have explained one such bhajan of Guru Gorakhnath in Bangalore recently. My posts and consequently their explanations are revelations of the sacred science of Moksha wherever they be-Facebook or WordPress. By understanding these posts, the disciple will be assured of the sincerity of this path besides its sacredness.
Besides, there are some posts on Fb which are directed towards me or my grandson but they benefit humanity because in them the Great Ones or the ancient Holy Sages either speak something about themselves which is completely unknown to the world; or they reveal the path of salvation through the sacred words. A few posts are instigated by one of the greatest rishis-Maharishi Kashayapa whose spiritual earnings are way beyond human comprehension and consumption. Today on this auspicious day, on Fb I will consolidate some posts of Maharishi Kashyapa; they shall benefit all those practitioners and seekers who are seriously seeking and wish to help themselves in knowing how we, as a single soul transcend from one point to another and how important it is to know God to mitigate our lingering sorrows. It was directed to my grandchild though but everyone is supposed to learn from these articles. We have just become mere conduits for the sake of revelation, I wish to clarify so that we all focus promptly and seriously as words are very grave and should be heeded.
Apart from a collection of older posts of Maharishi Kashyapa, a new post on Fb today is due. It shall come up as soon as I compose and translate the sacred words which are transmitted to me two days ago in my long meditations. On every 4th August there will be a new post on Fb in this chain of posts. The older posts of previous 4th Aug, of this series will be stringed every year as a pearl of necklace to beautify our souls and minds…..You shall soon see this new pattern of posts on Fb and savour its intensity.
The audio of this Discourse is a little more than 2 hours; it has the explanation of one poetry of Guru Gorakhnath-Bhola Mana Jane Amar meri kaya… to save your time and effort I have pasted the entire post from Fb on WP for your perusal since this bhajan or spiritual rendition was taken up in Bangalore and is very much present in my Talks.
In this way, I have also consolidated the recent Spiritinlife activities through this post about our activities so that the link between the author and the readers is maintained. Kindly be in constant resonance and connection so that you are always empowered with the energies that are endowed through these articles from time to time.
In the end in Bangalore, we all heard the above bhajan in the gathering but the recording of the song was not too clear. Hence, I have inserted 2 versions of the song-MP3 as well as You Tube. You may choose whatever you like the most or avail both. Please get inside the skin of this musical and lyrical composition and partake ‘prasad’ or grace from all the ancient Holy Masters who are very quietly guiding our Spirits in order to free us from the severe karmic bondages which we have created over centuries…..
What happens if you submit your mind at the feet of your Holy Master?
This world is so inconstant, body so fickle, mind always restless. The ephemeral nature of this ever shifting sand of desert-world
Will never allow you to rest fully if you do not understand this fact.
People come and go incessantly, waste their lives in absolute inessentials.
But never spend time to guard their own interests and become immortals.
They live only for sense pleasures and build structures and satisfy their egos.
The puzzle of this never ending delusive world can be cracked by only some.
They are the ones who are totally blessed and blessed by the Almighty God.
They are blessed because they have lived uncountable lives only by God’s will.
They are called Gurus or Sadgurus or Avatars or Chiranjeevs or Amar Atma.
They know how to teach someone crack this entrapping and puzzling Maya.
They are under constant God’s commands and always are doing His duties.
They will first call you, inspect you, and see what lies beneath your inner core.
The core consists of desires and imprints of all the actions performed in all lives.
They work on removal of those dark spots and untangle knots which create desires.
Once the knots are opened, the mind begins to see the facts which are beneficial.
The mind begins to create new actions which are not detrimental and only enhance.
The mind gets peace and rest and the senses begin to rest and the journey begins.
A new life starts which gives more time for the upliftment of one’s own Soul welfare.
The senses are slaves, mind servant, body worker and the Soul lifts and soars freely.
It unites with the Universal Consciousness, it permeates into highest Consciousness.
It is free from shackles of endless lives’ slavery of moaning fiefdom, mental darkness.
It is always free of unwanted fatigue of exhausting, immoral thoughts and sadness.
It is also free from the load of enjoying the ephemeral pleasures which are later painful.
The Holy Masters make you ever free, ever joyous, and ever present in every moment.
The future and past are nullified and each day is lived as a deep gratitude towards Him.
The Soul soars, mind is free and body is always complying since there are no tensions.
These Holy Masters will always guide you quietly and sincerely without your knowledge.
Until one day you wake up and see how hard it is to awaken a dead wood or a sleepy dough.
Once awakened, they shall also become joyous, sincere, one pointed and very concentrated.
They will never err again, they will never go back to their original state of drowsiness or laziness.
They will always be in poise and calmness, mind their own business and never feel ungrateful.
Sorrow and pain will never touch them, disease both mental and physical will be at bay invariably.
So trust your inner voice, submit your mind at the feet of your Holy Masters, do not disturb your poise.
Come to them with an open mind and a pure heart, they will baptize you, purify you with gentleness.
They will also make you soar like them one day in the everlasting heavenly kingdom of the Heavenly Father!
This time related rare Nirguni Bhajan is of Guru Gorakhnath, the disciple of Guru Machandarnath of Northern India sung by Kumar Gandharva again. http://gaana.com/share/titemI699422
The lyrics are-
Bhola mana jaane amar meri kaaya Dhan re, joban sapne si maya Badal ki si chhaya
Ek kuan paanch paniyaari Jal bharti hai nyari nyari
Dat jayega kuan, sookh jayegi kyari Haath mal mal chali pachon paniyari
Sukha sa kaath bhent nahi chhaya Kahan tera thausa, kahan teri maya
Baalu ki bheet pavan ka khambha Deval dekh bhaya achambha
Adi Adinath Machhandar ka poota Yeh jasa gaave Gorakh Avdhoota

Translation by each line now-
भोला मन जाने अमर मेरी काया I My naive mind believes that my body is immortal!
धन रे, जोबन सपने सी माया II Wealth and youth are like a dream, it is like a fleeting dream.
बादल की सी छाया II The worldly attainments are like temporary shade of a cloud.
एक कुआँ पाँच पनियारी I There is one well and five women are drawing water from it.
जल भरती है न्यारी न्यारी II And they all fill up water separately.
डट जाएगा कुआँ One day the well will halt, the flower bed will dry up.
हाथ मल मल चली पाँचो पनियरि II And the five water drawing ladies will be high and dry.
सूखा सा काठ भेंट नही छाया I Your dead body will be like wood, it won’t be decorated anymore and it won’t have any shade over it.
कहाँ तेरा ठौसा कहाँ तेरी माया II Where is your bullying, any prestige or worldly power or any glory or money now.
बालू की भीत पवन का खंभा I The walls are made of sand and pillars made of wind.
देवल देख भया अचंभा II When I see this temple I am stupefied.
आदि आदिनाथ मच्छंदर का पूता I Eternal Adinath Machandar’s son I am.
यह जस गावे गोरख अवधूता II Gorakh Avdhoota is singing the praise of his Guru through this poem.
Dear readers, this Nirguni Bhajan is written by Guru Gorakhnath from North India and he is one of the eighteen siddhas of South India also.
Siddhas were yogis, alchemists, mystics, astrologers and healers and or a combination of all these too. Like Swami Kartikeyan, Bogarnathar and Shri Mahavatar Babaji, Guru Gorakhnath went into deep forests of South India to do intense meditation and penance like his Guru Machandranath. Some others in the category of eighteen siddhars or siddhas are Agastya, Thiruvalluvar, Thiromoolar, Kalanginathar and some more mystics and immortal divine souls. Most of their literary work is in poems on palm leaves and are still available in remote Tamil Nadu areas. Their foremost discovery was nadi shodhan or nadi reading, reading the pulse and doing the diagnosis of a diseased body. Ayurveda was born out of the research of these siddars or siddhas.
This particular poem by guru Gorakhnath reveals to us the eternal fact and the hard reality of life. And that is the reality of the ever changing world and the never changing fact of our impending death.
Very beautifully, he describes that ah! how strange is this-my mind is naive because it believes that this body of mine is going to last forever!!
In fact, instead of telling others that you all are going to die one day therefore open your eyes, he is telling himself that his mind is naive and innocent.
He further explains this one point by saying that wealth and youth are not going to last forever since they all are like the temporary shade created by the floating clouds in the sky. The wealth and youth give us temporary means of sustenance and delude us in this way. Similarly, we see dreams in our sleep. They are not real and are made and destroyed in a few moments. This world and our inheritance is like a dream, we cannot hold them for too long. We cannot hold our dreams. The achievements and belongings of this world are alike the dreams and we cannot hold them for too long. They both are very much temporary in nature.
The well is used here to describe our human body in which there is life force. It is made of five senses and the women who are drawing water from it constantly are the five senses in the body. The five senses draw out our life force separately and a day arrives when there is no life force left in the body and the human body is extinguished.
That is a time when the human finally stops and this flower bed (body) dries up since there is no water or life force. At this stage the five senses or women who were drawing water from the body-well leave the body remorsefully one by one.
The body becomes like a dead wood and it has no shade over it or a shelter because no one keeps the dead body at home. And guru Gorakhnath is now asking humanity a valid question and that is-Where is your blustering, bullying or social prestige and wealth?
The walls are made of sand and the pillars are made of wind. When I see this sight I get stunned. Which walls and pillars is Guru Gorakhnath speaking of and why is he so stupefied?
This body-temple is made of sand that is Earth; it comes from earth or anna or food and disintegrates and perishes on earth. The pillars are made of wind. Wind word is used here because wind also means life force or air here. The vasanas or intense lusts and passions are embedded in the human’s life force and like air, the vasana won’t be stable and will travel fast after death into a new body since it has worldly intense desires or vasanas.
The word wind is also used here to compare and say that this body is so temporary and there is no guarantee that it will be stationary. It has no fixed legs or permanent legs to stand on forever.
So Guru Gorakhnath is saying visualize a structure that is made of walls of sand and the pillars of wind. Seeing or imagining such a sight gives him great deal of disbelief and astonishment. He is stupefied. In other words, he is pointing towards us and showing us how ephemeral our body is but we think the reverse. All the people in this world believe that they will never die because they all are so engrossed in living their mundane life and are living in a dream and never think of metaphysical topics.
Guru Gorakhnath’s Master was Guru Machandranath. Gorakhnath is calling himself the son of Guru Machanadarnath and says he is singing the glory of his Guru because the knowledge has been given to him by his Holy Master Machandarnath and that he himself is an Avdhoota which means totally free from all Maya and worldly desires. And he loves to sing his glory……..
Footnote- These bhajans are not only rare but very difficult to decipher and comprehend as well. People can always have their own opinion and meaning but the exact meaning comes only when we can meditate intensely and connect our quiet mind to the soul of the real or original author or poet. Since they too have written the classic poems in deep states of meditation and were in communion with the Supreme or to the Spirit of their own Holy Master, who was guiding his or her thoughts. I too prayed and invoked Guru Gorakhnath to guide me to tell me the exact meaning of his mystical poetic creation.
This is my small offering at His Holy Feet and also to God’s all children who are going to read this lost, ancient, wonderful bhajan or devotional offering.
With gratitude and devotion always.
