Improving our Thought Power-III

#86

“A very strong and positive mind will create a new shrishti, a new world for you. If more and more people do pious and generous actions, the collective thought power of the world will increase many times. The mission of all the saints and Sages is to increase the collective power of masses in all nations and it begins at individual level.

You initiate this act from today. As one’s sanchit karmas (accumulated karmas) are extinguished with the grace of God and the gurus, the power of thoughts increases manifold. All the shakti, power of the manas or mind should be oriented and focused in doing only selfless actions – nishkam karmas. The power of nishkami purush is so much higher and has more potential than others. The result of our actions are in God’s hands. When we decide and dedicate all our pious actions to God, God and all our Gurus are extremely pleased. They give us more shakti, their power to do nishkami karmas. Thus each good action is born with a good thought. Increase such good thoughts and also increase the power of each thought by meditation daily.

Meditation leads to contemplation. Contemplation leads to Self-Inquiry which in turn leads to Self Realization and Self Transformation.

Strike a balance between meditation and practical life. Meditation is self transformation and practical life is about actions. To increase your thought power you must do both, both are essential for your inner growth and progress.” Swami Nityananda.  (From Thought Power-III)

Dear readers, this is the concluding post on the topic of thought power; there were three parts on thought power and three parts on ways to improve that power. May we all try to gain insight into these six posts and may we all as spiritual seekers  attempt to move ahead by transforming our thoughts by our daily efforts.

In my own small effort, I am posting this new article and pray for all the aspirants who are striving. May God give them success in their efforts and peace in their hearts and minds. We begin with an explanation about how our subconscious mind should be purified of negative elements and how we must make it dynamic and powerful by doing unselfish and humble actions. Regular practice of meditating and compassionate praying for our loved ones and others too will cleanse the mind very quickly.

The last portion is an offering of a beautiful mantra to the Lord of the Universe. I am sure you must have heard it many times. It can be sung often anytime during the day as it should penetrate inside the deepest levels of our minds.

“When the seeker purifies himself during his sadhana or spiritual practices, he must be aware and attentive regarding himself. At any cost, he must not allow negative thoughts to arise in himself for others. He should only think well of others and must have love and compassion for them even for those persons who behave imperfectly, spitefully or unkindly.

The whole purification process takes a long time to complete so he must be alert all the while. Divine bliss and ecstasy come much later in the meditations by the grace of God and hard penance.

Towards the peak of many incarnations, the human soul when ready for God realizations has to undergo many hard tests and personal trials for the victory of Spirit over matter. In that life time, all the left over karmas of uncountable lives are ready to fructify, all at once in frequent intervals. The sadhak must be aware of this and must not be overwhelmed by this natural phenomenon. When the harvesting of karmas occurs, there are incidences of loss of wealth and honour, depletion in health, mistrust, deceit from people and so on. The gyani or the accomplished seeker comprehends well that this is a temporary phenomenon and after the gloom and doom, there will be a change and relief received eventually. Knowing this, the sadhak turns his mind towards God, and only God. He makes sure that his mind is completely held fast with divine thoughts and spiritual practices. Along with this act, the sadhak carries out only selfless actions towards all relentlessly. While doing all this after some time, there comes a turning point where his life once again looks up and there is a marked alteration, well being  and positive transformation in every sense.

He attains peace in the mind and there is peace at home as well. Health improves gradually, there is sufficient prosperity and the heart and mind of the seeker is now all the more involved and absorbed in God day and night uncompromisingly. Therefore he must not stop or put a stop to his spiritual efforts and must believe in God’s mercy and caring love.

At last, finally there comes a time in the seeker’s life, when God is very pleased with him because in spite of such rough times he was doing only unselfish actions and was showering only affection and kindness to all God’s children. This is the turning point for which a true sadhak must hold on to and should wait for this glorious phase. He becomes unusually empowered in every sense since he cuts through his thorny destiny with blazing knowledge and wisdom and pious actions and creates a dazzling new sacred divine life full of joy, happiness, well being and permanent peace.

Solutions to all life problems, prosperity in all areas, love flowing easily for every soul, tranquility in all times and fearlessness in every situation – this is the kind of life that is created for the sadhak, by his own will.

And how does this happen?

The unpurified mind has negative tendencies in the subconscious level. After purification, the subconscious mind becomes completely positive and gains extraordinary spiritual powers which translates the mortal, ordinary consciousness and existence to divine consciousness and good living.

The thoughts thrown out from the purified subconscious mind attracts happiness, wealth, success, creativity, prosperity, peace, friendship and health.

The powerful thoughts lie in the subconscious mind. Whatever we think or act at the conscious level, gradually becomes permanent as it moves in the subconscious mind. Therefore the seeker must be vigilant all the time.

What should he be doing?

The seeker must make his subconscious mind powerful.

How?

By playing out the role assigned to him by God and destiny both. While carrying out his duties, at the back of his mind he must constantly remember God in any form. In free time, he should practice meditation, must contemplate, introspect and maintain a diary to record the important lessons and review them at regular intervals.

Those around you who are unwell, unhappy or sad, be of some assistance or support to them. Kindle love, sympathy and kindness and give solutions and remedies to people in their problem or distress. Inspire them to lead a sacred and spiritual life by your own actions and thoughts. Be good to all and think well for all. Speak well of others and encourage and motivate them in all their efforts. Comfort and support them when they are in need.

Mentally bless all the creatures and send out loving peaceful vibrations to God’s creation, pray for harmony and well being of Mother Earth.

By doing this, not only will the subconscious mind be purified, the inner recesses of the subconscious mind will become powerful by positive divine vibrations. The power of such a mind never gets depleted of energy and is never exhausted because the power of God’s will constantly flow in it. In return, he shall be able to care for all and do good actions for everyone.”

This post has been supervised by Vashishtha Rishi. His forte is Sankalpa Shakti, the power of our mind. He advocates rebuild it by meditation, select your thoughts and insert chosen high frequency thoughts which will add positive energy in the world and into your sub conscious mind. Vashishtha Rishi has extra ordinary memory owing to his nature of keeping words minimum and remaining in the depths of his sub conscious mind where he has accumulated very bright thoughts of positive  energy of selflessness  given by God to him in his meditations in many lives.

The above mantra of Bhumi Mangalam, Udak Mangalam  is authored by Loma Maharishi. Both the Rishis were born a very long time ago and are abundantly wealthy in their mental domains uptil now.

Improving our Thought Power-II

#85

Morning meditation on 9/4/11.

I do not know what good I have done to earn this Grace but I do know that this kind of experience is gained when God is very pleased. Such experiences are rapid in momentum and take its own time to disclose its relevance and meaning. I am so full of gratitude and content today. Such moments are always so welcome for a seeker and I look forward with great zeal for their reoccurrence because they tell us much about the mysteries of the Alchemist, the Great Lord!

I got to meditate after a brief lull yesterday but to my surprise at the very start I had a vision of Mother Earth. I saw the Earth from far away as if I had gone up very high in a space shuttle as soon as I had closed my eyes. The Earth looked very small like a tiny globe or sphere from where I was.

And as I came down approaching the Earth, I saw its surface with green patches of vegetation scattered sparsely which was visible to me – the onlooker.

I instantly hoped that I should not see any grey or black patch over the Earth as I had seen earlier in meditation(Refer post Thought Power-I) When I saw an image of dark grey clouds over the Earth some days ago, I had never anticipated that it was a prophesy and it was the island country in the far east which suffered one of the worst natural disasters after a jolting earthquake. I wished and prayed at once that there should be no more affliction and misery for so many people. Oh God! not again please.

After my prayers, I slipped into a short spell of comforting peace and savored every moment that followed. I began to speak to God, “God, you are very sweet, you are very loving, very endearing. The more I know you, the more I love you. I get more and more drawn  to you as each day passes as if you are a giant magnet and I, a piece of small iron. Your attraction power is irresistible, Lord. Please pull me more and more towards yourself so that I get to know you even more. Shower your Grace over me, my Lord, my humble request to you today. Please give your enchanting love and ecstasy” Speaking out my innermost feelings around that time put me in some other world where there was no gloom or distress.

I again had a vision of Mother Earth from far away after which I prayed to God once again,” God, let there be harmony, co-operation, love and peace amongst us. There should be no room for animosity or conflict amongst your children and may I always give out loving and peaceful vibrations to whomsoever I meet or know or not know. And then in a flow I began to chant this Sanskrit mantra with devotion-

Om Sarve bhavantu sukhinah, Sarve santu niramaya…….

I became effervescent and so joyous that words are not sufficient to express myself. There is so much power in our prayers, more so during our meditations.

After mellifluous joy, effulgent rays of Divine Light entered every pore of my existence thus giving me a shower of divine bath. So soothing, so very comforting… Is this Atma santushti?

Peace followed and captivated me for the next few moments.

Next, a communiqué was established between me and God in the form of soliloquy.

A gush of Vedanta knowledge was given to me without my asking and I was submerged in its sweet ecstasy!!

S- “Who deserves enlightenment?”

G- “Those who suffer in this Maya, illusion and who after many incarnations take shelter in God. God directs them to their predestined Guru, who is a recipient of God’s incessant Grace.”

S- “Why does man reincarnate repeatedly?” (Read Why is Atman difficult to know?)

G- “Because the thinking power of man is abysmal low and he does not improve the power of his thoughts.”

S- “Why does man not improve his thought power?”

G-“Because man’s existing thought power is already so low. Based on his present poor thought power, he creates new karmas which hurl him down further and hence in this way there is no way by which he can be raised. But God is concerned about us. God is always anxious and eager that somehow we must rise in Atman, in Spirit because God cannot see our suffering.”

S- “And how does God help us?”

G- “God helps us indirectly since we are not ready and prepared to connect and deal directly with Him. Those souls who are awake in Spirit, who are called our Spiritual teachers and Masters, God communicates through them. The Masters illustrate the Divine Path because they are always in unison with God.”( Also refer ‘The power of praying intensely’)

S- “How does the Guru help us?”

G-“The thoughts or sankalpa of the Guru are in agreement and unity with God. They have unlimited force in them. Whenever someone with a clean heart, with a pure feeling sends out a prayer or appeal or a humble request to God, that prayer or request after touching God, first of all reaches the Divine Guru. The Guru after God’s approval sends out divine thought vibrations which travel in the Universe. The thought waves in Cosmic Consciousness are acknowledged by us if we are prepared. So, establish a strong bond with the Divine Guru with your mind and then establish yourself in Atman. Their powers will give you profound peace and you will become very strong in mind and deeds. After this happens, the seeker begins to think on Universal level and does good for the Universe. In this situation, God is very pleased with such souls.

Jan kalyan Vishwa kalyan,  srishti kalyan, vriksha aaropan, Vishwa shanti ki prarthana se Bhagwan bahut prassan hota hai.

With prayers sent out for the world’s welfare, planet’s well being, for peace and happiness for all, acts of afforestation, God is extremely delighted. Without even asking for anything in return by us, God gives us everything in abundance, all our desires are nourished and we begin to touch new heights in spiritual growth and improvement.”

Foot notes:

The Vedic prayer for all mankind is-

Om Sarve Bhavantu sukhinah

Sarve santu niraamaya

Sarve bhadrani pashyantu

Maakashchid dukh bhaag bhavet

Om shanti, shanti, shanti Om…

 Brihadaaranyak Upanishad 1.4.14.

Translation

May we all be happy,

May all be free from disease and enjoy health and freedom,

May all possess good luck and prosperity,

May no one suffer even on dark days,

Om peace, peace, peace…

Soliloquy( suh.lil.uh.kwi)

-A speech in a play when a character speaks his thoughts aloud when alone or regardless of hearers.

Spiritual knowledge in many Upanishads are questions and answers between the disciple and the sage, his teacher. Aniket means soliloquy and when our soul speaks to Universal Spirit in silent communion, it is called Aniket.

Conclusion- Praying and meditating have enormous transcendental powers. Tapping the Higher sources with them   increase our own thought powers profusely.

Improving our Thought Power-I

#84

Part-A

How do yogis achieve the highest levels of Consciousness?

Each man possesses a mental body of his own. It is the energy of the kind of thoughts that dwell and are nurtured in the mind. His intellectual property, his process of thinking and the kind of thoughts nurtured are all included in the mental body. Each thought that we send out, each thought that we receive and the cumulative power of it all makes a man what he is. It is this thought power to which we are attracted to in some people or repelled depending on the quality of thought.

Sankalpa Shakti – This word is also used for determination many  times. Sankalpa here means the rise of a thought, the power of thoughts. Every thought that is born is like a wave in an ocean, and has its magnetic power. It draws to itself positive or negative circumstances. The more positive our thoughts, the more power we possess and vice versa. Attention should be paid by us every time we think and to our quality of thoughts. We should discard the evil, bad and weak thoughts. In their place cultivate and nurture positive, constructive, creative and healthy thoughts.

The state of Super Consciousness-I

Dear friends, cultivating and nurturing a powerful mind is a continuous process of a life time. In the last few posts, it was reiterated that we must maintain peace and calmness in all times and try to hold on to lasting peace as much as we can. But due to our karmic cycle, there will be bouts of unrest and instability with loss of durable peace. So should we get discouraged by sudden storms or tides of lashing waves that hit us unsuspectingly in our life? No, a true sadhak and a yogi will still try to be calm inside in spite of suffering as he knows that the tide will recede at the appropriate time with God’s grace. Many times, the devotees assume that life will be absolutely hassle free when he once comes in touch with God during meditation. Well, this is not correct. In fact, an advancing yogi creates new pious and positive karmas currently and side by side also extinguishes past karmas as and when they arrive. What should we do in such a situation?

We must meditate with a specific purpose so that the effect of the rough tide minimizes and we must hold on to our Guru who will help us wade through the rough weather. How?

People think that in meditation we must try to stop the wandering and onslaught of thoughts and apply force to stop them. For all the sincere seekers, this point should be clarified once for all. One requires a powerful mind to let go of the subtle past karmas and be an observer. So in your meditation to improve your thought power, bring to an end those disturbing thoughts which people are sending to you by not allowing them to enter first your aura and then your mind. More so if the thoughts are bothering you and are a hindrance in maintaining the tranquility of your composed mind. For this, you must be watchful of the thoughts and images that keep bombarding you during concentration or meditation.  Instead of entertaining, discard them. If they re-occur discard them again and again until they stop coming to you. In this manner, we make our mind empty of re-connecting to past karmas done with those people many lives ago. Practice this and after a few days, you will again be your normal self when harmony and tranquility prevails in normal life.

This method of meditation described is for subtle meditation and is prescribed for past life karma cleansing for advancing seekers.

For beginners, to improve your thought power, practice these suggestions-

When in turmoil, think of times when you were in peace. Re-live those peaceful moments.

Increase the depth and intensity of your meditation. When there is unrest inside you, re-live the depth and intensity of past meditations.

Repetition and chanting of one or two line mantras will soothe the mind and will make the mind stronger. Divine mantras add specific powers to the mind.

Do not allow negative thoughts to enter your mind. If they do re-surface, eliminate them repeatedly.

When in mental or physical distress, do not give up on daily physical exercise and remembrance of God, even if you cannot meditate during such times.

Part-B

Another meditation technique for empowering your mind-

After making the atmosphere conducive, sit in a meditative posture with your body completely relaxed.

Once you are composed and calm in mind, concentrate at the crown chakra.

For some yogis, there may be some discomfort in the beginning. Continue after some time again until you feel comfortable.

Once you get accustomed to concentrating at the crown chakra, visualize golden light over your head.

Stay in this position as long as you are comfortable.

After some time visualize the rays of golden rays falling on the crown chakra. Feel the soothing rays. And the peace in the soothing rays will touch the Brahma randra or crown chakra. Prolong this action or kriya.

Later visualize the golden rays entering your body through the crown chakra and penetrating the upper part of the brain, feel its sensation. The rays will then trickle down to the lower part of the brain. Imagine that your whole brain has been recharged with divine rays.

The Divine Light when invoked willingly energize us after it flows inside our body. If you focus on the crown chakra then the divine rays will energize your mind and give excess powers to recharge and revitalize your mental energies thus improving your thought power.

An anecdote –

As I am wrapping up this condensed post, I am recalling a memorable scene that I saw when we were travelling from Prayang to Saga during my Kailash Mansarovar yatra last year. Perhaps this is the most appropriate photogragh I have for this subject. Because a car was stopped at the Chinese check post for our verification of valid documents, we had to stop in the middle of our journey until that car could join our caravan. It was extremely cold at the place where we had halted; it was open, wild and completely barren. It suddenly became dark and cloudy and it was raining on far away mountains. There was not a single soul around and it was a no-man’s land. In spite of harsh climate, a few of us got tempted and got out of the cars to take a few pictures as the place was very beautiful scenically. My eyes fell on a unique spectacle when at the far end of this cold and barren land, I saw a solitary woman walking all alone in the cold. I really marveled at her mental strength. Here they are, take a look at the pictures! Hope you will revert on this forum with your responses, questions or just your spiritual experiences to share with everybody!!

Thought Power-III

#83

A little after midday on 10th March, in a period of absolute relaxation and complete tranquility, my consciousness was elevated. I experienced enduring calmness since my morning meditation.  Therefore, I made up my mind not to let go of this graceful attainment which is so hard to hold on to.  So, I left my mundane jobs and came to sit in my room. I sat on my bed, the eyes closed willingly and comfortably.

In just a few fleeting moments, I felt waves of profound peace sweeping over me from the sacred Mt. Kailash in the Himalayas. I saw it standing magnificently with snow fully covering it in white till the top as I sat on my bed contentedly. Its soothing and pious vibrations were familiar to my heart and soul. I gently detained all that was coming my way.

Before I could fully absorb the divine rays coming from the Himalayas, I subsequently had a mental picture of a turquoise blue lake shimmering like silvery rays. The serene waves of the tranquil waters created a peaceful environment inside me and I felt my consciousness raising higher. I grabbed every bit of those placid waves eagerly and was careful not to miss a single blessed moment. Peace is precious, so very precious. It is fragile in nature and one must learn to hold on to it; it comes with practice.

As I was engaged in embracing the delicate, flitting peace coming straight from the higher regions, I saw a dreamlike white bird in the water of Mansarovar in my inner view. It was made of ethereal components. I tried to look at the bird carefully and saw that it emitted rays of joyous peace. Its mere sight and thought brought me closer to the utmost levels of exposition. It moreover filled me with more calmness and yet more calmness. The magical bird started getting ready to flap its wings to lift itself up to fly while standing in the waters. I tried my best to go on looking at it as long as I could as I grasped that what I was seeing was very exquisite. I never saw such a heavenly sight before. I looked at the white bird once again earnestly and it stopped pushing itself up, though it flapped its wings once and eventually it became immobile. It stood still in the blue waters there. I became more curious by this time when…..

I perceived that the white bird was standing in the waters of Lake Mansarovar with Mt. Kailash as its backdrop and it was Brahma Muhurat time, an auspicious time 4 am and little later after that. The colour of the sky was cobalt blue. The peace that I felt looking at the imagery was like our rising at very early morning hours sometimes. It was a soundless morning with no soul around, just me and the sacred mountain, the lovely lake and the white surreal bird on an extremely calm morning! The experience was so splendid that when I slip back to it, I wish to go again to that celestial world mentally. I acknowledged that I got all this with the blessing of my divine guru. Everything was sublime, uplifting and so heavenly!

A voice came from behind and uttered these cryptic words- “Hansa, sukhsagar, Mansarovar.”

Instantly, a verse of saint Kabir’s composition ran across my mind. I comprehended that the myth of a white swan in a lake is an analogy – representative of our Spirit and Lake Mansarovar is representative of soul – peace. So when we attain darshan of Atman, we experience sublime peace. I could understand just this much and the next two days that followed were full of serenity.

If you ever go to Lake Mansarovar in the Himalayas, you will get to hear many mythological stories. It is believed that if one visits the holy lake before dawn around four o’clock in the morning, a white divine swan from the astral world comes to drink the sacred waters of the lake. Rishis and munis always long to have a glimpse of this sacred site though just a few lucky people get to see it.

Swami Nityananda of Ganeshpuri gave me my next lesson when he very sweetly explained, “To increase the power of your thought, remain peaceful all the time. Peace is achieved when we do noble and pious actions. When evil or inharmonious deeds are performed, the guilty is punished with unhappiness and cheerlessness. Joy is derived by doing good deeds. Besides, actions performed consciously with a noble vision leads a soul to higher awareness and clean consciousness. Actions performed with powerful thoughts of nation building, looking after the needs of all the people, of environment and ecology of one’s nation and world, taking consideration and care of all living beings will produce and generate new power to your thoughts.

If you do powerful new karmas today, progressively your mind will get stronger and more powerful as each day passes.

Very strong and positive mind will create a new shrishti, a new world for you. If more and more people do pious and generous actions, the collective thought power of the world will increase many times. The mission of all the saints is to increase the collective thought power of masses in all nations and it begins at individual level.

You initiate this act from today. As one’s sanchit karmas are extinguished with the grace of God and the gurus, the power of thoughts increases manifold. All the shakti of the manas or mind should be oriented and focused in doing only selfless actions – nishkam karmas. The power of nishkami purush is so much higher and has more potential than others. The results of our actions are in God’s hands. When we decide and dedicate all our pious actions to God, God and our Gurus are extremely pleased and give us more shakti, their power to do nishkami karmas. Thus, each good action is born with a good thought. Increase such good thoughts and also increase the power of each thought by meditation daily.

Meditation leads to contemplation. Contemplation leads to Self-Enquiry which in turn leads to Self Realization and Self Transformation.

Strike a balance between meditation that is- self transformation and practical life that is-actions. To increase your thought power you must do both, both are essential for your inner growth and progress.

The gurus will tell you how to solve the riddle of this complicated world as one is always puzzled at its bewildered state. Do not be afraid of taking a variety of experiences as experiences will give you practical knowledge. Experience is your master. Guru’s protective hand is always at the back.

Do your duty of meditating as the mind can become powerful only if it is devised to generate its own energies and to unite with the powers of the gurus and God. Those who are enabled to strike a balance between actions and meditation will grow in body, spirit and mind.”

After a few days, Swami Nityananda again gave me respite when I was hit with a wave of tumult. His timely guidance was this- “People think that if our life becomes more comfortable and prosperous we shall automatically attain peace. Nothing can be more untrue than this because if you have peace, then everything is alright. Hansa means durable peace, not freckled and fickle. If your mind is calm, then the thoughts are powerful. Words, thoughts originating from peace are always beneficial.

Sometimes disturbances from outside are so overwhelming that our sustained peace gets upset. If you have lost your peace, regain it and stay in a peaceful state of mind. Practice meditation and one needs practice of holding on to sustained and durable peace. In such a situation, start your japa and other practices so that the mind again becomes tranquil and gets relief. When the mind gets relief, it will be able to meditate deeply.

The outside world is in a feverish state-noisy, restless and agitated, ascertain it. Get involved in it only as much as is essential, leave the rest like the saline water of the ocean. Practice living in peace like that of Lake Mansarovar. For such intense peace, stay in seclusion, turn the mind inwards and continue doing your sadhana. If you continuously put your mind in God, a great deal of power will flow in your thoughts and you can do impossible tasks”.

Thought Power-II

#82

  Part-A

  • Always have a higher purpose and goal in life.
  • To achieve that higher purpose, have great thought power.
  • And to have great thought power, be in control of your senses and the mind.
  • To control your senses and the mind – meditate more and more.

When our thoughts are concentrated, attuned with Divine Gurus and surcharged with God’s power, one can do impossible things for the sake of spiritual welfare of others. For this one must raise one’s consciousness, bring the senses in control and focus the mind completely to empower it with full force.

When the mind is surcharged, powerful thoughts of the highest good of oneself and for others should be sent in the Universe.

After meditation, leave and disperse thoughts of someone’s spiritual progress as well as evolution and pray to God that their souls may be redeemed. God’s Grace is received with such selfless acts and the Gurus respond by telling us how this purpose can be achieved. In this manner a few more souls are empowered, emancipated and enlightened thus making our Universe more peaceful, harmonious and enlightened.

One outstanding example of a dynamic thought.

At the end of the war of Mahabharat, Yudhisthir performed the tarpana ritual for the souls of the departed. Although the Pandava emerged victorious, Draupadi was remorse and dejected as she had lost all her sons in the war. Unable to bear her personal loss, she wailed unceasingly. When she became  poignant and cheerless, a noble thought rose in her mind one day. After consulting her  protector, friend and guru-Lord Krishna, she decided to perform a havan, a fire sacrifice and pooja to worship their deities for forgiveness. She conducted a very big havan in a desert to also pray to Mother Earth and the Universal Lord with Rishi Veda Vyasa by her side. She sincerely prayed that although her own children were no more alive, but God’s children as the future generations yet to come must have a long life. They must live in a world of abundant love and peace!

Morning meditation 10.03.11.

Meditation is a unique mental activity since it involves an individual’s mind which connects to the Universal Power thereby making it capable to receive those unlimited powers directly and in return enhancing one’s own individual powers.

A meditation technique for the beginners and advanced seekers alike.

  • Sit in a comfortable position in a quiet zone with your eyes closed and back upright.
  • Rest your hands on the knees with your palms turned upward.
  • Take a few deep breaths until you feel relaxed.
  • After sometime bring your attention to your eyes and remain there.
  • Lift your attention from your eyes and bring it in between your eyebrows.
  • Visualize a small lamp at this spot with a flame.
  • After a while visualize that there is just the flame lit at that place. Focus on the flame.
  • Remain in that position as long as you are able to.
  • Now visualize entering the flame.
  • You will only see yellow Light in your vision.
  • At this juncture, repeat a positive affirmation for your self for your own higher good or affirm for others or do both.
  • The limitless powers of the Universal Energy will start entering you, receive them without any restriction.
  • Remain in this position as long as you can.
  • Sit in silence for some more time so as to absorb the divine rays.
  • Benefit from the calmness and tranquility.
  • During the active day, recall this experience and revisit the positive feelings over and over again.
  • Practice this morning and evening/night till you see the good results.

The above meditation technique was given to me by Subhash Chandra Bose. He was an accomplished yogi of many lives.

It is called Tratak (त्राटक). In my book – Preservation of our Awakened Spirit, Mind & Body with Divine Knowledge, Meditation, Yoga, Pranayam & Prolonged Inner Silence, a sub chapter is given on page number 177. It is about two techniques which he gave me. One is Tratak.

The book is available on Amazon. Thank you.

Thought Power-I

#81

Keeping in rhythm with the short month of February, this post is short and sweet. There are two parts nonetheless. One is today’s revelation and interpretation of my visions in meditation which took place about a week ago. The latter part is the description. When you co-relate, you will find that whatever I heard or saw in morning meditation of 22.2.11 was explained to me an hour ago. There was a gap between the vision and its decoding or unfolding. Hence there was no preparatory time for this article, it is extempore in nature. In spite of all this, there is a flow of thought and a connection between the two parts. Glimpses of divinity is almost blissful except in some exceptional occasions when the change over from bad to good, wickedness to divinity and from falsehood to truth takes place on this Earth. But after the transformation there is profound peace hidden somewhere and it comes at the appropriate time destined by God. As long as we have complete surrender and faith in God everything is alright, everything is sweet, joyous, beautiful and worth spending our time on!

Part –A

Afternoon meditation 28.02.11

“My dear children, this Earth was created out of sheer divine love by Divine Father. In a moment of intense love out of his Thought, this Earth was created. Our Earth has all the elements, all the resources to sustain life for billions of years to come. This Earth also has waves of unlimited thoughts of people living here. These thoughts form a blanket over our planet and can be seen by the astral or divine eyes of the illumined souls in the uppermost regions of the celestial skies.

There are two types of thoughts that comprise this blanket – the good and positive thoughts which act as rays of positive energy and are helpful in sustaining this planet. The others are the contrary thoughts – they are negative and destructive thoughts which are an impediment in building, sustaining and maintaining the Earth. Whenever the negative rays exceed the positive rays, there is divine intervention from the celestial skies from the living divine souls who are ordained by God to maintain the balance of Dharma and Adharma – Truth and falsehood. The golden rays from the celestial skies fall on the Earth which are refracted and received at the spot where it was aimed at. When this happens, very slowly the wheel of dharma begins to rotate and spins till the balance is again restored.

In practical terms it means that when divine light falls in places where there is a lot of adharma, there may be sudden or violent changes which when allowed to happen create positive results in future. Bad elements are removed; new positive drastic changes take place on the Earth; and truth, goodness and happiness restored.

We must be an instrument and a participant in such good moves in spite of mental fatigue, physical weariness and lack of vision. God is behind all this drama and we must attempt to achieve success in such endeavours.

Peace and love are two things without which this Earth cannot survive. So spread love and peace in every possible means and methods to create the ever joyous planet.

Mother Earth.

Morning meditation 21.2.11

Practiced concentration at third eye in the morning despite incessant noise and clatter in the surroundings. The clouds of unrest, confusion which were dancing in front of me some time ago retracted. With God’s grace, saw a wonderful rainbow and then divine light giving me a new high. The rays of golden light carried me in a trance and soothing joy with profuse peace covered me like a warm blanket. Immediately conversation with God began:

“Give happiness to all. Give joy to all”. I became a silent spectator when-

I saw the Earth in front of my eyes, it was like a globe. Slowly the globe became smaller and smaller and I began to grow. I became bigger and bigger till I became a spectator of this small Earth. What I saw was quite amazing. I saw there was a dark cloud; grey, dark coloured thick layers over the globe. There was tension, disturbance and strife below the dark layers. When I looked up I saw the sky through which rays of golden Light were penetrating and were falling on the Earth. The face of many saints meditating in peace in the higher regions emerged in front of me.

As I was watching the galore of wonderful images unfolding before me, to my sweet surprise the golden rays then began to fall over my palms as I sat in a meditative posture. The light rays were coming from the sky and after falling on my palms, they began to fall over the face of the Earth thereby making me a channel. In a few moments on my own, my palms turned upward facing the ground and I could feel the high current flowing in my palms. I could see the rays coming from a very high source up above and in a beautiful moment of right thought and action, I willfully redirected those divine rays towards the Earth.

After doing this, the globe which I was seeing earlier which had dark clouds and dusty layers, became white. The globe became whiter than before and had spots of green. Like someone can transmit Reiki light from one medium to another, I too was transmuting divine rays on Earth and the positive vibrations created by such thoughts began to give me immense ananda. I saw white coloured waves floating around me like a mist when my lips began to pray out of gratitude and love for our Mother Earth –

“Oh my God! We all are your children and you our Father, our Mother, our Guardian and Protector. This Earth is our home and abode. Please bless all your children, may they all live long, may they all live in peace and joy, may they all live in prosperity and health. Sarve bhavantu sukhina , sarvesantu nirmaya…..
……..May we all love each other; may we all help each other. Wherever there is darkness, give light, where there is hatred sow love there; where there is unrest plant sustained peace; where there is disease, give health and well being; where there is sorrow, give happiness to all.

May Life always be sustained on this planet Earth; may the Mother Earth yield green harvests year after year; may the rivers always be full of life giving water. God, may the air that we breathe be pure, may your children have a long life, may the trees too have a long life and may all the animals and plants continue to live on this Earth in joy and fearlessness. And may we get timely rains and God may all your children live on this planet in peace and joy.”

Om Shanti, shanti, shanti, shanti Om!”

Friends, you shall find the response to this prayer of mine and its interpretation in Part -A. It was Mother Earth who guided the flow and essence of this post just a while ago. With her immense grace, I was able to publish this post or else I was at  a complete loss until a few hours ago.

Expand your Consciousness-III

#80

12.02.11

It was a very pleasant morning and as soon as I woke up, I was eagerly desirous to meditate so that I could once again lose myself and be one in the ocean of God’s endless flow of grace. The last few weeks have been full of rapid learning and like a child going to school and enthusiastically waiting for the teacher to arrive in the class, I sat to meditate on that day to have one peek, to sneak a quick look of the infinite which is so irresistible and endearing. Therefore, at the beginning of meditation, I requested God and pleaded- “God I want to know more about you, I want to come closer to you, bring me closer to you, more closer to you my Lord.”

Hearing my plea, God responded without delay when the effulgent Light cascaded on me and covered me completely. I basked in the morning sunshine as well as divine Light simultaneously in my room and rejoiced till the most inner core of my being. Such glorious moments of intense joy and ananda, such blissful moments, so much Light! Who would ever wish to come out of such embalming Divine showers?!

God’s answer in words also trickled in very quietly, “I accept your sweet request and wish to give you more knowledge, very intense knowledge  prachand gyan.

(Refer last portion of  Expand your Consciousness-II)

“After Self realization there are three stages.  First there is shanti- peace, after shanti  there is a stage of Divine sound-Om and after Om there is complete silence- shunya  or void, a complete thoughtless state.

I am going to tell you about one kind of meditation. This technique of meditation is for those who are pure in heart and faithful to God. After your meditation whatever you practice, do this kriya or action in order to attain indescribable peace.”

Meditation technique

Visualize white Light on top of your head at the crown chakra. Let it remain there for some time or as much as you wish.

Bring this Light from your head to your shoulders. Feel the white Light on your shoulders, remain still. You will experience peace.

Bring down the Light from your shoulders to your spine and then to your root chakra. Let the Light remain there for some time.

The spine is a hollow tube which starts from the base and ends at the base of the neck. We will pass the divine Light in the hollow tube up and down many times.

Practice this and experience unalloyed peace within you……

I did as was told to me and I saw the dancing particles of energy in my cerebrum after this exercise and the peace is lasting for days on.

Next-

Maharishi Agastya’s blessed words of insight and ancient knowledge once more-

“Those souls who have been living in this universe for a very, very long time are a treasure and store house of Earth’s as well as man’s history. Just imagine how much we have seen, how much we have known and imagine how many eras, epochs and time cycles we have witnessed.**

The time that was followed after the creation of the Earth, was very heavenly and delightful. There was no insufficiency or deficiency. Slowly, with time the population of humans increased and the trees were felled. The deterioration and destruction on the Earth is due to human follies and lack of sight and vision.

Africa was the richest and most prosperous kingdom 86,000 years ago with an organized society. They made great advancement in agriculture, cattle rearing and little bit of mining of stones and water. They made many oasis and reared their cattle as their wealth. .

Africa was lush green and very prosperous in vegetation and animal life but pride and arrogance combined with greed depleted its resources. There were more sins committed like adultery and incest than virtuous acts. The more faith we have in God, the more gladness and happiness generated around. Whenever the sins of man exceed on this earth, God has to send a very luminous soul to re-establish Truth and Dharma called Avatar to remind us of the eternal knowledge and truth that advocates having compassion on all living beings, loving all, doing good to all and helping all men. Where ever there is a surge of wrongful acts, there is disturbance, remorse, unrest and disorder and people are in agony and pain. The luminous Souls or Avatars as they are called incarnate and give their punyas or meritorious karmas to Mother Earth and that in return brings back peace, order, cheerfulness and love. Dharma or righteousness and Truth are re-established. If we also add something as our contribution towards this objective and mission of the Avatar or other realized souls and dharmatmas, then their workload shall be eased. The positive rays of Divine Light emitted by them generate peace, happiness, greenery and relaxation to the tensed minds on the Earth.

We must always remember our duties towards our country and to God. Family duties can also be somehow managed; it is not a big issue. When we work for God, our household and family responsibilities are taken care by God itself-

“Sarvadharmanparityajaya mamekam sharanam vraja”

These lines are from Bhagwad Geeta which I quote here. Chapter 18 verse 66.

Translation-

Sarvadharmanparityajaya mamekam sharanam vraja I

Aham tva sarvapapebhoya mokshayishyami ma shuchaha II

Resigning all your duties to Me, the all powerful and all supporting Lord take refuge in Me alone, I shall absolve you of all sins, worry not.

At this point, a flash of Divine Light hit me in the third eye and the Light spread inside and outside. It percolated in all the different sections of my body. After it spread, it dawned on me that-

Divine knowledge is eternal, it never changes although the world will change, people will come and go but the sacred knowledge will always remain the same. It is hence called Sanatan Dharma or Eternal Religion

Maharishi Agastya continued with his flow of Divine words after giving me a glimpse of the sacred light and knowledge. He said,

“The human by nature is constricted and restricted; it likes dullness, timidity and obscurity. When he gets Light in the form of wisdom, he does not accept it. Knowledge of God and Self is eternal and we must attempt to attain it. Knowledge is Light, with knowledge we get to see God.”

18.02.11

Mahavatar Babaji’s golden drops of divine words in meditation-

Incessant grace of revered His Holiness Mahavatar Babaji once more. He enlightened me by throwing so much light on areas which are out of purview of average human mind and my day became so much richer. He began by saying-

“What you are going to receive from me now is because of the good karmas of your many lives. This is ‘prasad,’ grace from God to you and you must share it with all.

After Self Realization, a seeker transcends and attains three stages of further development, one by one if he has the will and desire to attain, if only he has ichcha shakti.

1st stage- After self realization, there is a stable state of sustaining peace. The mind’s agitation stops and one is calm most of the time.

2nd stage- The stage of Om. Continued sound of Om, the divine sound is heard in meditation or in other times as well by the meditator.

3rd stage-During meditation many times the culminating stage is also touched, the stage of thoughtlessness called shunya or void, a state of Pure being.

The meditator passes from one stage to another and after long practice of concentration and meditation and Guru’s grace, he stabilizes in one such stage and then shifts to the higher one. The mind and body have to be prepared and fine tuned for such higher stages. Right diet, enough sleep and regular exercise are of prime importance. Ayurvedic medicines such as Brahmi, Ashwagandha, Shatavari are good brain tonics. Foods such as amla, almonds, nuts, milk and milk products, fresh fruits and vegetables play a vital role in nourishing and recharging the nerve cells and channels (Refer Food and breath control)  Head and body massage with a nourishing and rejuvenating oil and aromatherapy are also helpful to a great extent and are supportive in creating a healthy well being.” He went further ahead by saying the what is mentioned in the oldest Vedas, the Rig Veda.

“When the Universe was not born, what was there? Shunya- void, emptiness, no thought stage. A state of bliss, ananda, eternal joy.

In a world full of people there is chaos and commotion in the atmosphere. The thoughts that float in the space clash with each other and it becomes harder to meditate upon God in a modern world. The relentless noise of traffic, people and machines add to the disturbance in the atmosphere.

The Earth is a unit, one house, it is one. Do not think in terms of country or community, see the Earth as one planet and the planet as a whole. It is yours. At the moment, our Earth is passing through the lowest level where the rate of unrighteousness, sins, lust for money, greed in on the surge and increasing everyday. This trend should be reversed and we must make our planet greener, more peaceful and pious once again.”

Conclusion-

Babaji concluded very beautifully when he took me to greater heights as he told me-

“Those who wish to soar higher and touch new heights should follow this blog and they will realize the power of God. There is road beyond Self Realization, the latter is a phase, a sojourn in the very long path of the pilgrimage and we need not stop here.

After we get to Self Realization, the second stage is of Knowledge of Atman which should be attained. The next stage is of Cosmic Consciousness or Virat Swaroop, it is followed after knowing Atman. God is eternal, indestructible know Him. Expand your thinking and limitations and do good to yourself.

Simultaneously, there are many depths and levels of peace. Profound peace, intense peace and limitless peace.

There are several levels of knowledge too. Move onward.

Reach the thoughtless state, the state of perfect perfection!

If you reach the state of shunya void, you will be able to unfold all the mysteries of nature.

There are several stages of bliss or ananda also. There is no limit or boundary for it.

Human is unable to attain great degree of perfection mainly because of his social commitments and obligations. Break the barrier of all layers of ego. Free your mind from very old pattern of habits and sanskaras.

And don’t forget to pray and meditate regularly for the good of all- living as well as non- living beings.”

I bow and prostrate humbly at the Lotus Feet of Shri Mahavatar Babaji and his Guru Agastya Maharishi whose incessant flow of Grace is flowing and benefiting uncountable number of people spiritually in so many ways. He is so merciful to have awakened us from deep slumber of so many earthly lives……….

(For more description read The Light of the world-Shri Mahavatar Babaji-II) Co-incidentally this article was written exactly a year ago and they both are so closely linked!

Hari Om Tatsat!    Hari Om Tatsat!   Hari Om Tatsat!

Notes

Once the Spirit unfolds in us and you know Atma, there are three levels of aspiration and heights to accomplish after that. In accordance, there are three types of gyan or wisdom – Teevra gyan, Prachand gyan and Prabhutva gyan.  When we translate that, it means wisdom that is intense, very intense and most intense respectively.

About very ancient Souls, the immortal Rishis and Maharishis-

As we trudge along our long journey, the posts are getting more advanced and engrossing. This post will touch upon three time periods- ancient, contemporary and the new age. We will talk about Souls or Sages also known as Rishis or Maharishis who are very ancient and primitive

So what they do? They are showing us Light through their knowledge and wisdom which they acquired millenniums of years ago. They are still around but in far-flung skies on the uppermost planes and skies and preparing the modern age or Kaliyug to tilt towards Satya Yug.

How do they help the humanity? They do this by changing the quality of thoughts of masses from narrow to higher, from disillusion to Light, from selfish interests to selfless and philanthropic acts and in this way purifying the planet in a very slow but definite manner.

What are their serious concerns today? Such highly evolved Souls are very much concerned about rapid erosion of our green forests and extinction of animals, putrefaction of water and pollution of our environment. They want the planet green, cool and pure. Religion and spirituality both teach us that everything created by God is sacred and pious and therefore we must respect Nature. It is the impure thoughts and deeds of greedy and selfish people in political and social circles that are degrading our Mother Earth at an alarming pace. If we realize that every thought thrown in the environment has an impact on us and our planet simultaneously, we shall be able to contribute in making the planet more peaceful, beautiful, clean and worth living.

Maharishi Agastya

I was startled when I heard about these inspiring views from none other than Maharishi Agastya and an ancient Banyan Tree in the Himalayas in the morning meditation on 22nd Jan’ 11. So far I have seen Mahavatar Babaji on a crusade to save our planet from its quick deterioration. But recently Maharishi Agastya also endorsed these valuable and sane views so that we can live in a green, cool and pure world. But more of that later.

I recommend that you  please review the last post where I had mentioned about an ancient Banyan Tree living since the past eight thousand plus years in the Himalayas. Please refer posts on Ichcha Shakti, sankalp shakti…in  The state of Super Consciousness-I.

Part A

On one fine morning, before I was about to wake up, I had a vivid dream which I remember and recall accurately even today. Some dreams are hazy while some just wipe out even before we re-wind them to interpret their meaning. It so happened that a few years ago, we had to undertake some hard decisions to solve some of our problems when we were sailing in difficult waters. In that year 2003 on 16th Feb, I had a dream early morning which makes a lot of sense to me today. During those days, I was completely focused in learning some meditation techniques and was attempting the techniques devised by YSS guru, Paramhansa Yogananda. I was a learner then and found everything quite difficult because I had to orient and rotate my whole day accordingly in order to perform my spiritual aspirations.

I was gratified one morning when in a dream I saw that there was a State Transport bus in which there was a seat for three persons. On the window side was sitting Guruji, Paramhansa Yogananda, in the middle was Swami Shri Yukteshwarji and on the aisle seat I was seated. The bus was moving at a reasonable speed and we were driving on a breezy road which was spacious and had Palm trees on the divider. The road was quite long and we were about to reach a certain point. The scene changed at this juncture and the next part of the dream was that I was driving alone on a two wheeler on the same road and as I got little further ahead, I decide to a take a U- turn instead of going straight. As I take a complete about turn, I see an open ground where Swami Shri Yukteshwarji is teaching a sport like volley ball to a large group of boys. I make up my mind and stop my vehicle and go to Swamiji. I bow to him, say something after which he enrolls me in his class  and I join the boys and begin to play with them…..

I presumed at that time, that since I have come to YSS I am having a glimpse of the Swamis but I could never understand at that point the related significance and subsequently the consequences of the vision affecting my life in future.

Had I not taken those hard decisions during my time of severe trials, my life would have been a different story.  I would never have been blogging and telling you about prominent experiences of my spiritual journey undertaken so far. Had I not gone to YSS and learned to meditate, I would not have been able to masterfully solve my complex problems and could  have never sorted out my life. The U turn in the dream has significance. We all have to take some hard decisions, more so in difficult times, if we have to change our life from what it is to what we want it to be. However, just learning the technique is not enough I discovered soon during my learning process. There are some more conditions applied in creating a new life divine. I put my hundred percent and was faithful to my daily practices and left the result of my sincerity and regularity as an offering to God.

I went to Vrindavan and Mathura, the birth place of Lord Krishna in May 2003 with my daughter after her graduation. I had little time but had planned to see as much as possible in the available time. On the first day before we started our rounds to the main temple and spots linked to Krishna’s life, I sat down to meditate in the hotel room for just ten minutes. I used to find it difficult to follow my daily schedule in those days and was wondering if I was doing meditation correctly.  As I was talking to myself during meditation, I saw Paramhansa Yogananda’s very pleasant face as though he was really standing there and has heard me. He smiled at me thus making me comfortable and instructed  me what to do next.

He retorted categorically and gave a specific instruction, “Increase the depth and duration of your meditation”. What he said to me years ago I have not forgotten. On the contrary, his one line has made me ponder repeatedly and I am still trying to increase the depth and duration of my meditations as each day passes. Although I tried to obey those lines, there were many road blocks and other physical inabilities which I tried to overcome. In fact, I used to get so serious about making that line a reality that on many occasions I was also told by the Masters that I should not be tensed or worried about it as it takes quite some time to master the mind and make it behave properly! The mind’s wandering and agitation of the senses takes quite some time to diminish and be brought under control.

The problem is that in any case a lot of our time just flies away doing our normal survival activities. Some of you may probably have the same dilemma because meditation is one such activity in which results are not in our hands and also one can’t evaluate oneself. It is only the Guru who can assess and judge us. So do not give up hope and stay in your spiritual practices with dedication and patience. One day, the positive results shall blossom in incredible ways!!

In previous post, dated 30th Jan, 2011, https://spiritinlife.blog/2011/01/30/expand-your-consciousness/ there is one line in the very beginning in Part B section where I had mentioned that my meditation was dynamic on that day. I called it dynamic because something so very unusual happened during its course. As God was explaining to me the 1st verse of Bhagwad Geeta chapter 15, I was completely immersed in it and was drinking every drop of the celestial nectar of timeless wisdom. As the long meditation just got over on that unusual day, I wanted to take some rest to assimilate the wisdom; I was still reeling under its colossal impact. Hence, I rested on my bed on my right side with my right arm stretching out of the bed and my face facing the door. It was 4.22 pm when I looked at the time and I closed my eyes to rest a bit. In just a few seconds, I felt an unusual aura of peace in my vicinity and just after that the presence of Mahavatar Babaji on the threshold of my door.

Initially I did not believe it when I sensed his presence. I was elated but confused too. To have rest, I was relaxing my body when I heard him say inwardly, “Can you not see that I have come to you?” I did not still believe myself and presumed that because I have been so engaged with Babaji and the making of the post, that it must just be a figment of my imagination. So I began to talk to myself and said, “No, no, it can’t be. I am too tired to concentrate again and focus my mind to connect with Babaji’s exceptional high wavelength. Anyway, why would Babaji come to me of all the people? I have a very long way to go. And in case he has really come, then he must just tell me what he intends to say even though I cannot fix my mind very sharply at this moment and I can’t see him with my eyes open.”

Now, at this instance, I saw two bright bands of colour – bright orange and yellow in my shut eyes. Babaji spoke the same thing twice further, “I am standing at your threshold, can you not see me?” Now I was on the alert and ready to act at this moment as it was not my misapprehension anymore. I answered, “It must be true that you are standing there but I cannot see you although my extended right hand is sensing your presence and divine energy. I guess you are standing at the threshold. Please hold my hand  Babaji, so that my arm absorbs your given message of your arrival and presence which I shall translate and interpret after I am fresh and energized. How can I ever lose this rarest opportunity? But I am too tired now because I have barely finished my last post and intense meditations.”

Ignoring my words, once again he quipped, “Do you remember the instance of Yukteshwar on the river Ganga’s  Rai ghat  when I went to visit him in Srirampur after he completed his book Holy Science?”  (Consult AOY chapter 36)

(At Ganga’s Rai ghat Srirampur near Dakshineshwar)

I could easily recollect the episode but I still could not fathom why all this was being reminded to me. I saw no connection at all. Finally he lay all my doubts at rest when he said, “You need more practice of concentration, fix your eyes on the central point between the eyebrows and remain like that as long as you can. You should concentrate on the third eye to control the wavering prana, the life force. Random thoughts keep pulling your mind from concentrating at one single point. To go higher up, one should be able to prolong the attention at kutastha, the spot between the two eyebrows which is the door to Heaven or the realms of Super Consciousness.

You cannot see me in my astral body because I am at a very high wave length of energy. To be able to commune with me for a longer duration, you should practice meditation in depth and duration.” I got my answer.

He went on,

“The Banyan Tree in Lumbini will teach you more how to have strong will power and to be absolutely selfless in nature. If you have a very dynamic will power, you shall be able to expand your consciousness with each passing day. So practice meditation with a dynamic will and desire.”

At this time, I again saw a spectrum of colours – orange and yellow. Later, I came to know that on top of orange was a white band which I was unable to see. The significance of the spectrum was explained by Maharishi Agastya after just a few days.

Part B

On 2nd Feb 2011, after a while as I sat to meditate in the morning, I saw Rudra Prayag in the Himalayan Mountains and a small cave. It was here where we had halted twice on our forward and backward journey to Shri Badrinath on Char Dham Yatra in 2009 with a large group of pilgrims. The hotel where we were put up was very close to Agastya Muni temple and I was quite  interested to go there but it didn’t come to pass as the schedule was too tight. Nevertheless, I was very fascinated to discover that Agastya Muni perhaps came up till here probably to do penance. The same image appeared in meditation on that day of the temple from outside. I had a glimpse of Agastya Muni. Though I could understand that Maharishi Agastya’s soul is close by but it was a puzzling state because normally I begin my meditation with a short prayer or words and thoughts of gratitude and I had not yet done that but the revelations began so hastily.

Maharishi Agastya was dark in complexion, short, had long hair tied in a big knot over his back and had a bunch of ancient manuscripts on palm leaves in his right hand. This face matched with the other astral view I had of him in Rameshwar temple in 2006. After we had offered our offerings and prayers in the Shiva temple at Rameshwar, I sat down in the hall against a pillar away from people, almost hiding and I did japa on my rudraksh mala. I closed my eyes to avoid seeing anything and with intensity repeated the holy name in a vibrant and pious atmosphere. I wanted to repeat the name of God as much as possible as my stay in Rameshwar was short.

With this thought and intention, I picked up my rosary and began chanting Om Namaha Shivaya mantra. After a little bit of chanting, I soon saw a short and stout figure with white dhoti draped around his waist and pot belly, a sacred thread over his left shoulder, and hair tied in a big knot on the back. He came in the hall, folded his hands with devotion and bowed his head in obeisance to Lord Shiva and turned around and came and stood next to me. I was astounded because I had not invoked any sage whatsoever. But with this incidence, I only gathered that the souls of the great sages must be coming here in the early hours to take a darshan of Lord Shiva which is true about all holy places. But why I got to see him and what could be the intention, rather what good I must have done in the past to get a splendid moment like this, I wondered. I was incredibly baffled at his unexpected arrival. As if this was not enough, he came and sat next to me on the floor. When I felt the warmth and very faint sensation of his auric energy, I began to thank my good luck and good karmas for an occurrence like this.

Inwardly, I did pranam to him with awe and reverence. He blessed me by saying these words, “Yes, I am Agastya. I come here every day to pay my obeisance to Shankar Bhagwan, I am his devotee. Swami Nityananda (of Ganeshpuri) has sent you here to do penance. I knew you will come. Your prayashchit redemption is over. You are now clean.

Now do tapasya, tapasya of body, mind and soul. Draupadi had full faith in Lord Krishna and he salvaged her honour and rescued her out of love. Out of sheer divine love between the two, Lord Krishna called Draupadi – Krishne. He gave his own name to her. You are a  asadharan stree, a remarkable woman. You will attain success faster than others. Your devotion to Krishna is exemplary, others will follow you. Your success is due to your devotion and faith in Krishna. You have worshipped him in many incarnations. He will do your udhdhar, he will rescue you, give you salvation, Moksha.

Now let me clear your doubt. Bhagwan Rama came up till here and then crossed over the ocean to Lanka. I helped him in his penance and in winning the battle with the asura Ravana. Ramayan is not a myth but it is all true. Faithless people doubt in God’s presence. After you go from here, continue your sadhana without a break with full devotion and faith in God, you will succeed.”

This is one incident and…

About less than a year ago in Mumbai, I went to my sister’s house. She was in her room and asked me to wait in the sitting room. As I sat on the sofa with no one else in the house, I had nothing particular in my mind. I was only waiting to leave that place and complete my work. While I sat there, my mind was calm and there was no stirring what so ever.  On the sofa in front of me I had a quaint sight. I saw a dark complexioned, very small built Brahmin with knotted hair sitting in front of me quietly. He did not move or say anything to me. I immediately recognized him as Agastya Muni and  his demeanor was calm and quiet. I looked at him with awe and before anything happened, he vanished in thin air. I was quite surprised at this unusual sight and purposely kept quiet about it and in my heart I decided at that moment that I will revisit my unusual day and my astral meeting with a great sage of primitive India only once I reach my house!

Just then my sister came out of her room and sat on the side sofa and asked me,

“You know X is conducting hypnosis and past life regression in large groups these days. Yesterday he came to my house and he has told me that the energies of my house have changed from good to inferior and I should do something about it. And that Agastya Muni was my guru in one of my previous lives. Now who is this Agastya Muni? Have you heard about him?” All I said to her was that “He is a prominent rishi of the South and when I go to South India I see his photo many times. He is the same rishi who has predicted our future on palm leaves thousands of years back through nadi shastra, and you have visited one such astrologer many times.”

She was actually quite clueless and confused and we left it at that!

I had no problem in recognizing this great sage about whom I had mentioned if you can recall, in the post –How does one  know Atman? that Maharishi Agastya along with Mahavatar Babaji and Boganathar took Saurabh Samadhi after intense tapas in the forests and caves. When he came to me in his astral body to impart higher than usual spiritual wisdom during meditation in the morning of 2.2.11 this time, I at once offered my pranam in my heart without moving as it would have broken my communion with him. Very fluently and losing no time, he began to converse with me telepathically,

“I am Maharishi Agastya. I am not a muni. Muni is the one who does manan, thinking on the mind level. I am a Maharishi because I did shodhan, research on medicine, Astrology, Chemistry and spiritual sciences. I like to help those meditators who are trying sincerely. When one tries to salvage his soul, he is met by many unexpected trials and tribulations. Only the daunting souls can march ahead. The weak and anxious souls decide to either stagger or stop their journey. The trials of life should be taken as tapasya. I am doing tapas since the past seventy five thousand years.

“When you concentrate on the agya chakra, do not give attention to any sound or loud noise coming from outside and reverberating in your head. Stay fixed. Fix your gaze at that point as long as you can. The thoughts and images that are coming in your mind are not generated inside you. They are of the people who are either thinking of you or talking about you somewhere; discard them, they are absolutely unimportant.

Depth in meditation raises the level of Consciousness and duration widens the Consciousness.

For depth, one needs practice. With practice, concentration and meditation becomes deeper. By depth is meant reaching the highest realms of the celestial skies of ether and space. Connect your mind to the highest skies. There are seven skies, seven loks or worlds, seven chakras, seven colours in a rainbow, seven days in a week and seven levels of aspiration. Touch the seventh level of highest realization where one learns to identify himself with the Spirit and not the body!

Our soul is entrapped in the body. It is like a bird caught inside the cage where the soul is tormented and flutters in anguish to free itself to fly in the sky of freedom to meet its beloved, the Highest Consciousness or Supreme Self called Chetna Shakti. The guru comes in our life to open the door of the cage so that we can escape the cringe and constriction of the imprisoned soul. The limit and boundary till we fly in the sky is decided by us. We can fly to either low, medium or the highest skies. All that depends on your Ichcha Shakti, your will to aspire and attain. Your vision with Babaji narrated in the preceding section denotes this. Your will to take leaps and strides was not in your destiny but you are taking because of your Ichcha Shakti. When Ichcha Shakti is prabal, that is intense, our own Atma helps us and catalysts the whole process of aspiring higher. You can be unstoppable if you wish to and cover distances which you couldn’t even comprehend let alone achieve them. If once your Consciousness is awakened, there is no stopping. So help yourself and others too. And I am protecting the birth place of Mahavatar Babaji in Parangaipettai from nature’s calamities so that it does not get destroyed”.

Now strangely, Babaji had told me to visit Lumbini, the birthplace of Gautam Buddha before I embarked on Kailash Mansarovar Yatra in July last year. I had planned my trip accordingly. But there were changes in the last hour and because of time crunch Lumbini was cancelled. While posting the last many articles, I realized that all the recommended places which I have visited have some great significance in my life. Just try to recall the great Banyan Tree that is more than 8,000 plus years old about which I have mentioned in my last post? This is the huge religious Banyan Tree in Lumbini * with whom I connected on the same day after Maharishi Agastya illumined me. The day was 2.2.11. It was the same Tree that has explained to me many undisclosed spiritual laws. With God’s great mercy, the benevolent tree divulged his past background and history also. Here is his story in his own words –

“About 9,500 years back, I was a rishi, a sage in Nepal in the Himalayan Mountains. For many years, I did intensive physical, mental and spiritual tapasya penance to realize God. After I realized God I meditated and thought why did I not ask anything for others with the clout of my tapas? I wish I had asked something for others instead of myself !

As God is very quick in listening to sincere and unselfish prayers, I was  heard  instantly and God said to me with his caressing words, “Hey Munivar, I accept your heartfelt and sincere prayer. After about 7,000 years a very pious soul is going to incarnate on the Earth for the salvation of people. An extremely sacred place is required for deep realizations for this exclusive and extremely pious soul. Think and tell me about one such appropriate place which will be befitting for that soul. Where ever there is penance done should be appropriate.”*

I told God, “Kindly give me such a later life so that I can serve that pure and pious soul.”

With my will so very strong and the desire so uncompromising to do intense penance because of which I chose to be born as a Banyan Tree since it is only the Banyan Tree whose longevity is thousands of years!

I lived a long life of 100 years as a rishi and when the environment was conducive, my spirit entered a Banyan tree in Lumbini. I waited for a very long time for Bhagwan Buddha to arrive. I made my long wait and hiatus my tapasya and sadhana. When Bhagwan Buddha was born, there was bright light on the land and I understood that my tapasya will soon yield result. One day, I saw Gautam Buddha, he had a divine insight. While walking here, he himself came and sat under the Banyan tree. When God’s dazzling Light fell on him, some of it fell on me too by which I got the consideration and returns of my intense tapas.

Gautam Buddha lived a long life of 93 years. He suffered a lot in mind and body so that even if not many, but just a few could be awakened in Spirit. There are only a handful people who truly love God. Typically, people come to God only to mitigate their sorrows and meet their needs and then they return to their lives and homes.

Mahavatar Babaji is also working selflessly and serving the humans so that their progress in Spirit is possible.

The evolution of human race is at an extremely slow pace. The reason of the slackened pace is their lack of desire. Only if the human being has an intense desire to free himself that it is possible to carry out such a profound change. Nobody can stop us from unfolding our full potential. When satguru reveals us the Truth, we must follow it and practice every teaching with sincerity. Practice with regularity. Practice any technique or method but your goal must be the highest. Detect your aberrations, weakness and vices and relinquish them permanently.

One life is not enough for our progress. So complete the unfinished task in this life itself and create your next life so that your future life has only God, human service and love, peace and joy.

Pay attention to every word that is uttered by Mahavatar Babaji  who speaks in your highest welfare and concern for the whole world. Co-operate and help him in making this earth peaceful, joyous, clean, green and prosperous in all natural resources. For it to materialize, have pure thoughts, do unselfish acts and dedicate this life for the sake of God. I bless you all, my children. Do good to others, do yagya of love. Babaji is a very pure soul. Help him in his global vision.”

This extraordinary spiritual experience made me very calm and totally satisfied and I was immersed in the enlightening words for the next few days that followed. My heart was inundated with gratitude for God because He has been so kind and merciful in revealing the hidden mysteries and laws of Spirit to us.

Dear readers, on the next day, Babaji was as usual benevolent to decipher the vision of the spectrum of three colours- yellow, orange and white which I had seen and could not interpret. The compassionate Master admitted that indeed Maharishi Agastya was an ancient soul and has been doing tapas for more than 75,000 years. He then unfolded a greater mystery which left me contented and enriched for the next several days.

He revealed that-

** “Light comes to us in the form of wisdom and knowledge. Try and attempt to have more of that. Expand your Consciousness and widen your spiritual knowledge. Give Light and wisdom to others.

In between these three stages there are other sub-stages of spiritual and God’s wisdom.

Now let’s look at the age of the Banyan Tree in Lumbini. It is very ancient and 8,500 years old. The wisdom given to us by this sacred and ancient tree is intense. It is called teevra gyan, intense wisdom as we call it.

Maharishi Agastya has done tapas for 75,000 years. He has given me wisdom and knowledge that is very intense – prachand gyan. What he has kindly bestowed on you all is prachand gyan.

My existence since my first birth and origin is some lakh years old. Hence my wisdom and spiritual knowledge is Prabhutva gyan which means extremely intense or blazing knowledge. Prabhutva gyan is rarest of rare and is attained with lakhs of years of tapas and is extremely exclusive.”

After this explanation, I was able to understand the meaning of the spectrum which I saw. It had yellow colour for Teevra gyan, orange colour for Prachand gyan and white colour which was invisible to my eyes for Prabhutva gyan. As I could not see the white band Mahavatar Babaji therefore advised me to practice concentration and meditation even more now for increasing its depth and duration.

Snapshots

  • The trials of life should be treated as tapasya, penance.
  • Do tapasya and offer the results to God.
  • Increase the depth and duration of your meditation
  • Depth in meditation raises the level of Consciousness and duration widens the Consciousness.

Conclusion- Knowledge coming from such ancient and timeless Seers and souls is proven and tested. Their ties with God is unbreakable because they have practiced the communion over thousands of years and hence their knowledge is flawless, reliable and worth trying and emulating. The other supposed mentors, saviors and saints are newly born ‘modern souls’ whose vasanas to earthly ties and enjoying the earthly pleasures are satisfied in the garb of spirituality. If you are a true seeker, then differentiate between real and imitation and focus only on your salvation, freedom and emancipation with the support and help from an immortal, timeless and eternal Spirit that resides in Shri Mahavatar Babaji. He knows the innermost feeling of every devotee and fulfills them on time. Since the time I came in contact with Babaji, I have been mesmerized by his personage and wondered time and time again as to how could a human being bring about such massive transformations in himself while living on earth? The very thought was mind boggling that someone has been living for almost two millennia just to serve others? Why would anyone do this I was baffled, and I used to think that if I could connect my mind with his Super Mind by Yoga, then all the riddles of metaphysical matters would be solved. I have considered this many a times in solitude and today with God’s immense grace and love for his children, some mysteries have been solved which were embedded in  my subconscious mind since several years.

With so much Light given to us, I now realize that  that there is no force anywhere in this universe that can dampen our spirits or stop our progression and ascent in unfolding our limitless hidden powers and realizations. The helping hand is always available, it is we who have to comprise the blazing desire to metamorphose and expand our mortal consciousness to Consciousness Supreme.

My dear friends, let’s pledge today that may we all contribute in our own ways  to help the great seers and enlightened Spirits in their  world wide mission of making our Universe more peaceful, holy and prosperous.

Hari Om Tatsat!  Hari Om Tatsat!  Hari Om Tatsat!

It was much later when I was writing my autobiography in the month of May of 2018 that I knew the real meaning of the dream that I had with Swami Yukteshwarji. I learnt from Maharishi Markandey that it was Swami Sri Yukteshwar who put me under rigorous training and discipline the way he did to his foremost disciple Paramhansa Yogananda, but only astrally.

On such spots sparkling with pious energies, God someday inspires someone to make a temple of great importance.” Kashyap Maharishi

Expand your Consciousness-I

#78

Part A

Dear readers, this post on expanding our consciousness is an extension of the last series of three posts on Super Consciousness. Apart from raising our levels, we must also try to expand our consciousness to wider horizons. If you recall, so far we have discussed the progression of a soul from throat chakra, vishuddha chakra to the crown chakra, the center of Super Consciousness, our Atma. Now we are going to discuss broadly the remaining chakras, our energy centres thus completing the whole cycle of ascent of a Soul..

On the night of 22nd Jan, I was endowed with a life altering experience during meditation. The meditation was dynamic, elucidating and it increased my awareness and widened my consciousness to a large extent. Prior to this unexpected experience, I was desperate and was trying to sleep on time so that I could be energized in the morning and make a sketch of my next post. So I quickly sat down to meditate in my room thus bringing an end to my normal day. As I was even preparing, I saw that I was overflowing with abundant love and peace and was unable to contain myself. As I was soaked in peace and complete relaxation of mind and body, I could hardly keep my eyes open by then. I saw myself covered by a blanket of godly love on a pleasant and chilly night. Impatient to connect to my inner source, I immediately began my meditation by saying a prayer. The power of love and peace in me was so urgent that no time was lost and I began to connect and then…..

Sublime thoughts and feelings were coming in my mind and I saw myself praying for the salvation and upliftment of those souls who have faith in God and have a desire to evolve themselves. I prayed to God that His children who are making an effort sincerely should be blessed with triumph and success. I requested God to give them His love and peace and that they too realize Him and become free from all shackles of bondage. May his children also do tapasya, penance and search out and see God in the form they desire since God appears in any form depending on the kind of devotion and faith placed in Him. I became somber at this point when a spontaneous request flowed from my heart in that hour of devotion, “God, please give them what you have given me; dear God please bless them with your Divine Presence in their hearts.”

With peace falling gently all over me and touching every pore of my being, I retired in bed longing for a quick transition from the state of wakefulness to restful peace in the form of sleep. I was certain that sleep will not evade me tonight and I shall wake up at the crack of the day when the first bird greets me near my window. As soon as I closed my eyes to sleep, almost instantly my body became very loose and I disconnected with the chord that attaches the soul with the physical body. I reached a different plane instead. I happened to see a galore of white Light in full beam before my closed eyes. It was milky white in colour and it felt so light then, so very pure in its divine presence. I was enclosed and fully covered by this white Light and was absolutely dazzled by its brightness and luminosity. Prior to this time, I had not seen such a bright dazzling Light during meditation or otherwise too. I was seeing only this white Light present around me and nothing else for a few fleeting moments. And then the sight of Light quickly vanished when it was replaced into divine visions.

The vision that I had was this..…

Before my inner eye, I saw myself walking upward on a path with Param Pujya, His Holiness Mahavatar Babaji. We were marching ahead with very quick steps. I was not holding his hand as we stood there. It felt as though now I was  like a child who in enthusiasm and sheer joy wishes to walk all by himself. I saw Babaji keeping an eye over me standing in a corner while I took strides and was almost running up with great anticipation. Later, Babaji began to walk ahead of me and I was trying to walk up fast to keep pace with him. On our way, there was a cluster of white clouds, but we walked past them. We did not stop and were walking upwards until we reached the regions of ether and space in the celestial skies.  I observed that there were no gross particles around us, therefore the movements were rapid. Everything was so light, very, very light. We both were as if flying in the upper space till we reached the skies and my thoughts were crystal clear during this time. We reached the uppermost levels of the sky very quickly. And all that I am describing here was awesome and truly incredible!

The place that we reached now was filled with bright golden Light. The tremendous rays were looking exactly like the rays of the Sun but were golden in colour, they were brilliant. They were present in every space possible and were immensely dazzling. A few of these golden rays started falling over my face and then entered my eyes, in the corners, below the eyelids, around the eye ball and behind the eyeballs.…. I saw them reaching in the right eye and I felt the warm sensation and tingling. They were tender and very soothing. Somehow the brightness of the Light was so glaring that I contracted and squished my eyes since I had never seen so much Light before, and of this intensity and luminosity. I turned to Babaji who was standing on my left side and told him, “Even if I burn off or die here, I will not go down again. I will never ever again go on the Earth and I will stay here forever.” As I was speaking these words, I was simultaneously exerting all my force into my soles so that I could stand there firmly and not budge under the Light of many Suns!!

Babaji gave me an enigmatic smile. I reiterated that I will not go down now from this level. Even while I was saying this, like a spike plunging downwards, I went down but instantly bounced back with full force and stood firmly on my legs once again. I looked upto Babaji for his reaction and waited anxiously. We both stood there for a few fleeting moments in the same state when all of a sudden he notified me, “Na, na, we cannot stay here any longer. You are not permitted. You have only this much punyas, good karmas and you cannot stay here any longer.” So we quickly rushed down and as we came just a level below this celestial sky, we came to the sky of the deities, the sixth sky. The Light at this level was was not very intense and it was very pale blue in colour, almost white in colour. I saw a few rays of light scattering around in that place and it is here that I saw a huge black Shivlinga which aroused feelings of devotion in me. At this juncture, Babaji questioned me, “Do you remember this?” I answered in the negative. “You have seen it, try to recall,” he prompted. I tried my best but could not recall when I saw the black Shivlinga. As my memory did not respond therefore, Babaji stimulated my memory as he opened an utterly unknown page of my past. Now this was quite startling as well intriguing as things began to unfold one by one.

With great composure and serenity in his eyes, he began telling me, “When you were one and a half years old, one day when you were in your mother’s lap, you had the same vision of a black Shivlinga to which you made a heart filled prayer and pleaded, “God, may I never again sleep in the lap of ignorance”.

With Babaji’s limitless grace and boundless mercy, I could recall this incident quite vividly during the latter part of my meditation. I recollected that it was afternoon time and we were then living in a joint family and I was lying in my mother’s lap and she was putting me to sleep. Along with putting me to sleep, she was also talking to some  members of the family after completing her morning chores. I could also recollect how noisy it was then and what I was hearing was complete cacophony to my ears. Instead of that, I wished to hear something nice and good words that could raise my consciousness. I felt much suffocated living in an environment that was so grim and dark. All along I was refraining and I resisted the waves of ignorance being bombarded at me in early childhood. That day I could see all this clearly when I regressed into my early childhood.

If a soul defends strongly even when he or she is very young in age and resists accepting the ignorance of people around him or her, then they overcome it by rejecting it mentally. Some souls who are in a dream state, they initially resist and after a few attempts give up because the ignorance of all the people around them is overwhelming and too powerful to combat. From here on, such souls begin to accept and absorb the darkness which is so prevalent in this world. In this way, the layers of darkness keep piling one after the other in our mind  if we do not reject it out rightly.

Now for the sadhak, to remove the ignorance of many incarnations, first of all the earthly desires embedded in the muladhar chakra, the base chakra and swadhisthan chakra should be purified of past karmas. This area is the seat of earthly ties and survival instincts. The passage between the lowermost chakra the muladhar chakra uptil navel is the place of earthly attachments. Majority of people live below the navel in lower consciousness. By nature, the human being does not assess himself instead, he judges others harshly. But when he begins self assessment, he begins to rise and reaches the point of navel from the centres lying at the base. As mentioned in earlier posts, Manipur or solar plexus is the seat of aspiration, the seat of fire as well as power. If we move up gradually in our consciousness and reach this center, we begin to aspire and raise ourselves from lower consciousness to higher awareness.

The navel is the cross point, a bridge in the body. Once the Kundalini Shakti is awakened, glimpses of lost memory of divinity is awakened and a new journey starts from this point. Please refer article on Kundalini Shakti, where explanation about smriti and vismriti  is given.

https://spiritinlife.blog/2010/02/01/kundalini-shakti-iii/

Heart Chakra or Anahat Chakra is the seat of love, forgiveness, compassion and mercy. As the seeker progresses and moves up, his heart chakra opens. First of all, he learns forgiveness. Refined feelings of love, gratitude, mercy, compassion develop thereafter. After forgiving all the people of this as well as other lives, pure love originates in the heart. Forgiveness comes only after we realize our own mistakes and the harm caused to others voluntarily or involuntarily. Empathy generates forgiveness. The sadhak now lives and operates from this level of consciousness if he keeps progressing by adopting various spiritual practices. Sadly, people mostly live on very basic level of existence and do not make efforts or strive hard to raise their consciousness from very gross to spiritual.

Part B

On the next day after the last post was published, I was taking some time off to rest and was going through the post mentally once more in order to absorb  it. The last series of three posts on Super Consciousness have been a phenomenal effort because so much of energy and time has gone in its conception, conceptualization and arranging them in a definite order. It is  sometimes difficult for me to say certain things or explain to others my spiritual experiences because words often fail me. Many a times, the inner experience is so wonderful that one would not like to dilute it by translating them in words.

Well, at that time I was also wondering do I have to tell so much about my experiences to others? Is it not enough? Why should I not write a post that is about other saints and great illumined souls instead? Why me?

(Gangotri temple in the Himalayas, the source of river Ganga, visited in 2009)

(The view opposite the temple, the other bank of river Ganga after it just starts to flow)

As I was brooding over this, I again fell in a trance that afternoon and got disconnected with the physical body. In the transcendental stage, I saw a thick forest and a big river was flowing in a zigzag manner with a gush and a roar. I reached the Himalayas and saw Gangotri and the white temple there and I also saw the thick foliage of evergreen trees on the nearby mountains. A voice began to talk to me telepathically, “I am Ganga, my sacred waters give life to millions. Many years ago, when I used to flow, there were such lovely, beautiful dense forests growing where ever I flowed on my path. Today, there are no forests and green jungles, but only concrete buildings. Uptil Haridwar, my water is still clean but after that it becomes despoiled. Do you know why? I replied, “No, I don’t know Ma.” She replied, “That’s because my water does not flow freely from there on, it becomes stagnant.”

I did namaskar to Ma Gange and tried to solve the riddle. Why did Ma Ganga tell me all this? What am I to do with this information. Am I not clean yet? These thoughts ran across my mind immediately. As I was struggling with myself…..

Just then I saw a small white temple which had a spacious room with white walls. Inside the room was a big white idol of Lord Vishnu holding the conch shell, shankh and a mace in one hand and in another sudarshan chakra wearing a garland of white lilies and a few red roses. There was a beam of white Light filtering in the temple from the left corner of a roof and the slanting light rays were falling on the idol of Lord Vishnu thus making the visual so sacred and wonderful. It gave me immense joy to see such a holy scene before my blessed eyes. This was the first time I had a darshan of Vishnu Bhagwan. I felt extremely fortunate because Vishnu Sahastranaam is my favourite tribute to Lord Krishna.

I tried to connect these two visions occurring one after the other quickly but could not gather anything. My curiosity was immediately satisfied when in an instant the idol of Lord Vishnu vanished and in its place I saw Mahavatar Babaji standing there in his usual appearance. I was stupefied at the turn of events and the variety of scenes rolling out before my eyes like a slide show on the computer screen. Comprehending my problem, Babaji said, “Start the next post now. One’s Consciousness need not only be raised, it should also be widened and expanded.” He gave me a few examples of attachment, anger and greed that some people possess around me and showed me the harmful effects these vices have over their lives. A kind of snapshot ran through my mind and I instantly got a glimpse of the next post.

“Do you remember the post of Super Consciousness-I in which I had told you that there are many Himalayan Yogis meditating and doing tapas in the caves out there?” he asked me.

I got my answer.

One day, in the morning when I was contemplating about this post, my mind got connected with one such ascetic living in the cave of Uttaranchal. He told me that he has been meditating there since the past thirteen years and has not come out of the cave ever since. The requirement of the sunshine is fulfilled by some Yogic Kriya and he is atoning his bad karmas of unkindness, ego and arrogance. He told me that-

“Attachment of a sadhu is worse than that of a householder. The sannyasi or sadhu has an ego which is undetectable by him and others as well and such a person has severe attachment to his monastery, disciples and his position. It takes a lot for them to accept that humility is superior to monk hood and that accepting other people and their views is a virtue.”

He himself had been arrogant and harsh when he was living in the normal world and with great difficulty has accepted his mistakes. Mahavatar Babaji’s supple guidance and unconditional love has changed him forever and he has realized the importance of unconditional love for all beings.

“Those who are practicing Yoga, Pranayaam or Kriya must try to look deeper inside themselves and seek Guru’s guidance in scraping off hidden subtle ego lurking inside them,” said he in conclusion.

I must admit that I am lucky for this timely advice from an ascetic sitting miles away whose advice I shall always remember and follow.

Part C

Today is 30.01.11,  5.00 pm.

Posting the last and the most important part of this article. Just got up from another dynamic meditation a while ago. I was waiting impatiently for the translation and explanation of Bhagwad Geeta’s verse 1 chapter 15 to come to me in meditation since a reader has asked me to explain it some days back. Well, just very few hours ago, I was praying unremittingly for the interpretation of this particular verse as indeed it is complicated and the meaning is difficult to understand. I requested God to explain the verse as different people interpret it differently and one gets to understand just a part of the shloka and not the full thing.

As I was praying I had a vision of Lake Mansarovar and sacred Mountain Kailash and I saw its highest tip. Mt. Kailash heard my prayer, acknowledging that I was waiting for God’s response to write this post. It began to communicate with me and said that I am a blessed soul because God has heard my prayer. I should now raise my consciousness further up from the tip of the Kailash Mountain and connect to the Highest skies and highest source-God. I also saw a Shree Yantra, a pyramid which I have and is a perfect representative and replica of Mount Kailash. One should meditate with this yantra if  possible. Today I meditated keeping this yantra with me as I was having  difficulty in concentrating. Eventually I was  able to connect and all of a sudden the answers to all my inquiry began to flow unrestrained! I only had to contain and absorb it.  I heard God speaking inside me and the Voice began to explain to me the sacred knowledge hidden within this verse in Bhagwad Geeta in the sacred hour. The Voice of God said-

“Bhagwad Geeta originated during the time of warfare and bloodshed when Arjun’s heart was filled with remorse and compassion as he did not want to kill anyone. He detested bloodshed and completely surrendered to God in spite of knowing that victory was his without any doubt because Krishna was with them. God was very pleased with Arjuna and responded and spoke to him through Krishna. Krishna became the medium through which God gave the eternal, shashwat knowledge to Arjuna. God responds unconditionally to sincere prayers and pure hearts.

The world or sansara  that we live in and see around us is eternal and the ignorance of man is also primitive and eternal since the first man was born many, many centuries ago. The physical world is temporary and illusory, it is like a bubble in an ocean. The ocean is the Universal Self or God. God is eternal, limitless and infinite.

We are born here many times and every time we come here, we are in a state of dream or sleep. When we dream, we are in delusion. Delusion can be broken when we attain knowledge of Self with self realization. For that we must go to an enlightened Guru who breaks our delusion and gives us the eternal knowledge of Self. The Vedas contain the knowledge of eternal Self. The knowledge of Self is also eternal like the world or sansara. We must acquire this knowledge.

The Guru takes mercy on us and shows us many of our important past incarnations that we have lived so far as a proof that indeed we have lived so many lives only dreaming and did not  know the Truth.

With constant help and guidance of the Guru, each and every cell of our brain is illumined with continuous spiritual practices and master’s touch over a good period of time. Normally, humans use very little portion of the brain in a life time. As the dormant memory cells are recharged, we can do past life regression. We get over with our very old, unwanted tendencies and habits, thereby the memory of our Soul is kindled. Eventually as we progress on our path, we  get enlightenment of the Soul once all the dormant cells are functional and used optimally after recharging them with Divine energy in the form of Light.

Sadly, the ignorant man’s brain is shut as the nerve cells are clogged with ignorance and dark particles. For the enlightened, God is eternal and always present while for the ignorant, the power of God is unknown and false power of self or ego is always prevalent. This is the main difference between the two categories of people- gyani, agyni

The analogy of a Banyan Tree is used as a metaphor to explain this. It can be explained on two levels- body and mind. First on body level- the parts of a Banyan Tree can be compared to that of our body. The roots of the tree are the parts that hold it firmly to the ground. They are like our feet holding us firmly on the ground. The legs and trunk of the body are comparable to the trunk of the tree. Our hands are compared to the branches. The canopy of the tree is the head of a human body and the roots dangling from the canopy are our matted hair.

On the second and higher level, we compare the upper part of the tree to the upper part of our body- the human brain. As explained just a little while ago that the canopy of the tree looks similar to the brain of a man. It is similar in shape and anatomy. The leaves of the Banyan Tree are like the cells of the brain and the veins in the leaves are the nadis or veins in our body.

The cells in the body have memory ingrained in them called smriti. As we live in this sansara for too long, we forget God and believe the world to be real. This is vismriti  or forgetfulness of God.  Smriti and vismriti both are in the brain and the memory of God should be revived gradually with the eternal knowledge of Self or Atman with Guru’s guidance. Behind the memory or smriti is God. We must reach uptil here where the memory, smriti of our divinity is re-awakened. At the last stage of evolution, the remembrance of God is real, God is real, God’s personality real, God’s power and existence as real in contrast to the existence of our false ego.

And finally there is one more part of the interpretation of this shloka which when combined with all the explanations before makes it complete and final.

Urdhva mulam adhah shakhamashwatham prahuravyayam I

Chandasi yasya parnani yastam veda sa vedavit II

Ashwattha is the other name of  Banyan Tree. Ashwattha means shashwat, that never ends, eternal.

There are two types of men in this world those who know and those who do not know- The gyani and agyani respectively. Majority of people come in this world without knowing who has created them and this world and get completely entangled in the maya jaal, the webmire of maya or delusion. They repeatedly come in this world because of their vasanas or desires for physical world and are therefore called ignorant and compared to an inverted Banyan Tree in this shloka. The falling roots upside down are the roots of ignorance in the inverted tree. They are contrary to what they should be ideally and therefore the tree is shown upside down.

While the wise men, come in this world, they do not get too entangled, go to a guru, take Vedic or esoteric knowledge from him, cut down the branches of their ignorance with an axe of wisdom and are compared with a Banyan Tree which stands firmly on its roots and is absolutely grounded. Those men who have knowledge of God are firmly grounded and do not get swayed by the storms of enticing maya.

In the end, God asked me, “Do you know that there is a Banyan Tree which is more than eight thousand years old? Have you seen it?” I thought for a moment and looked around every where mentally and thought of a few places. Actually I did not know that a tree can live up to eight thousand years, leave alone know one! God enlightened me, “There is one such Banyan Tree, the Boddhi tree in Lumbini under which Gautam Buddha attained Prachand Prakash, intense light. It is the only tree which is so ancient. It is now 8,056.5 years old. Mahavatar Babaji can be compared to this Bodhi tree- so eternal, so timeless and so ancient. Such trees are never uprooted even in the strongest of wind, earthquakes or storms and are always strongly grounded. You are a very blessed soul because you are writing all this about him. Pay your homage and tribute to an ageless, timeless, immortal Soul who has been living for more than 1,800 years to serve my children.”…..

My dear friends, with my ceaseless gratefulness and boundless gratitude and devotion, I wrap up this post with a poem and offer both of them at the lotus feet of our beloved Mahavatar Babaji.

May his fragrance of wisdom, love and knowledge reach every human soul living on this earth!!

(In Haridwar Ganga ghat near Keshwashram in 2009)

Pani Bahata hai, jeevan bahata hai, manushya theharta hai.

Apne andar ki kitab kholo,

Khud ko jano, apne ko pahchano

Kisliye yahan aaye they, kya kar rahe ho?

Dukh kyon sahate ho jab swayam sukh ki khaan ho?

Andar ke taale tumhe jakadte hai,

Unhe guru se chabi lekar kholo,

Ganthe swayam khulti jayaengi

Jab sachcha samarpan karte hai

Samarpan woh sachcha jisme

Bhavnaye tumhari sachchi ho

Man mei tarang sundar uthe to

Ishwar usey sweekar lete hai.

Mai bhi tumhara haath pakad lunga

Yadi tum chahoge

Pakadkar phir kabhi na chodunga

Jab tak dhyeya pura na saadh lo

Ek bar chu kar dekho

Andar kaun hai?

Kya kabhi mahsoos hota hai

Tumse pahele koi mojud hai?

Translation-

Water flows, life flows but man stagnates.

Open the book which is inside you

Know thyself, recognize your true self

Why did you come here, what are you doing?

Why do you suffer when you are a treasure of  happiness?

The shackles inside arrest you

Release these chains with the key from the Master

The knots shall open on their own

When we surrender our self

Surrender that has sincere feelings

Is real and true,  and feelings which are true

Are hurriedly accepted by God.

I shall hold your hand

If you so wish

Once I hold, I shall never leave you

Until the goal is met.

For once, glance inside , touch and see

Who is inside you?

Have you ever once felt that

There is already someone present even before  you?

The state of Super Consciousness-III

#77

Part-A

“My dear child, you have never questioned me and have followed all my instructions and requests with full conviction and faith. I have sent you to many places about which you knew nothing but you took my words as words of God” –The state of Super consciousness-II

In the beginning of 2001, when I came here, I was battling to relocate myself in a new city and environment when a series of super normal experiences took place at home. Apart from handling relocation, I was also learning to survive the avalanche of personal, familial and health issues. Providentially, I was extremely alert during those days as I tried especially hard to overpower the concurrent hardships thrown at me unexpectedly. As the going got tougher, the inner efforts to rejoin and clutch on to the Supreme Power were intensified by me. I practiced meditation religiously at home whenever I could snatch some time apart from the fixed one in the morning and night. As the super normal faculties in me were unfolding and growing, I soon began to have visions of saints, holy and godly figures more so at night when I was alone. I did not recognize some of them and speculated who those souls were. Anyway, they persisted to occur in my dreams and periods of complete rest and calmness during the day. However, there was one prominent face with whom I could easily identify and recognized him immediately.

The arrival and presence of Shirdi Sai Baba was calm and serene whenever I saw him some times during my practice of yoga and meditation. From his recurring emergence, I comprehended that probably he was calling me to his samadhi at Shirdi for some reason, and so we made a trip in 2004 to pay our obeisance to the holy saint. I could only thank him for calling me to his abode and I remember even today that I only asked for one thing. I silently prayed there by saying, “Baba, God is very kind and gracious to me because he has given me a chance  to stand in your temple and I have come here to take your darshan. If you think it is right to ask, then, please grant me your blessings. Please give me good health so that I can find God within myself and bring an end to all my sorrows. I want to see God in me. I want to solve my problems with the help and guidance of God alone. I wish to know why I am facing so many troubles all at one time. Make me and my family stronger mentally and physically so that we can tide over the current difficult issues and problems. Bless me dear Baba that I learn the right technique of meditation, bless me that I can concentrate and I find the right teacher for all these things.  Sai Baba, help me to navigate my path, please.”

When we were coming back home, we drove under a beautiful blue, vast sky and the fresh air was so rejuvenating. There was no habitation anywhere as such except for a few occasional mud huts of the farmers in open outstretched fields. As we were in the middle of our journey enjoying the unspoiled nature and tranquility of the open space, all of a sudden my eyes fell upon a  nice, sheltered, cool and calm place full of trees and I persuaded my husband to stop the car there. I requested him and my daughter to comply because it was a good excuse to take some rest apart from satisfying my curiosity. As my pull was so irresistible, it was decided that we shall halt there but not for too long.

What I saw there was a feast for my eyes and a balm for fatigue to the body. My curious eyes saw a few very big Banyan Trees and I was attracted towards them as though they were calling me. In the previous few years as I have got more and more inclined towards spiritual matters and practices, I have become all the more fascinated by the Spiritual Tree or Banyan Tree. Though not spoken or expressed, I have been mesmerized by it since I don’t know when.  I have felt many times that there is an old man in it who is pious, wise and is full of judicious knowledge watching the fleeting world and its chaos by being just an onlooker. Sometimes in early childhood, I have got a sensation while standing next to a big Banyan tree that there is an old wise spirit in it who is watching me and extending his hand over me as if blessing me. I remember something like this happening to me when I went to our village as a child a long time ago. At other times, I have felt that the tree is a representative of our forefathers and if I water them, or plant some saplings I will obtain peace and their blessings. However, this is the first time I am letting out my reserved thoughts about my fascination about the Banyan Trees. In any case, the series of Super Consciousness posts have Banyan Trees as a point of reference.

Very well, we move back again in time when I found a grove of Banyan Trees in wilderness. When I got a bit closer and walked up to the first tree, to my astonishment I saw many more huge Banyan trees behind the first one all in a line and there were two rows of them. In fact, there were two symmetrical neat rows planted meticulously thus creating a definite path between them to walk on. I was pretty overwhelmed and wondered what kind of place is this and who must have grown so many Banyan Trees and that too they have all survived. I walked a little further on that path and approached one such Banyan Tree to take a picture and decided without a forethought to quickly call upon God and pray while standing there. I prayed for our living and the dead, “Dear Spiritual tree, please bless me, my family, our forefathers and the future generations to come. If we have committed any mistakes in the family now or before, please forgive us. Please may we all have longevity, good health, goodness and prosperity. Whatever corrective measures need to be taken to amend and atone for the past mistakes committed by our forefathers, I shall do them.” I hoped in my heart that somehow my prayers should be granted so that there is peace and harmony in the family.  We left the wonderful place in about half an hour after strolling around the place and taking a few photos.

When I returned home, my curiosity was satisfied in time of meditation when I discovered that the neat rows of Banyan Trees were planted by a rishi kanya,* daughter of a sage many years ago. I was satisfied at last to know who the creator of such an exclusive and sacred place was and I left it at that. Once in a while I have been looking at these photos and have wondered how and why did we ever go there in the first place.

On 17th evening of this January, around 4.15 after I had a cup of tea, I decided to sit down calmly to contemplate by closing my eyes. I was thinking about what matter and content should be discussed this time in our post when….

I first of all saw a faint face of an old man who had long, thick, white beard and he was wearing white clothes. There was a bright aura of light around his face and his eyes were calm. He smiled lightly and introduced himself by saying that he was a rishi who used to live in that shady place where we stopped accidentally on our way back from Shirdi. He told me that he used to live there 2,350 years ago and his lineage is of Agastya Muni. He had his gurukul, a school there and boys from faraway places used to come to him to learn Vedic lessons and teachings. He had a daughter whom he helped grow many Banyan Trees at that spot so that she does not have pitra dosha  in future, debts of family. In order to avoid the harmful effects and not to have to bear consequences of the wrong doings of the forefathers and past generations, she was made to grow a line of Banyan trees. She should live comfortably and in peace in her life. Consequently, he made her cultivate a ‘ Shanti vana’, the forest of peace!”…..

In August of 2004, at dawn before I woke up I had a vision in my dream. This is what it was – there were two Banyan trees standing side by side. The one on the right side was very big and was distributed while the tree standing to its left side was quite small in comparison. Some Bhagwad Geeta shlokas were written on the bigger tree which were not legible since they were hazy. But there was one shloka written in between these two trees which I could read and comprehend. It was this-

Paritrāṇāya sādhūnāṁ vināśhāya cha duṣhkṛitām |

Dharma-sansthāpanārthāya sambhavāmi yuge yuge || Ch IV Verse 8

Lord Krishna tells Arjuna: To deliver the pious and holy, to destroy evil, and to establish Dharma, truth I shall manifest and appear in every era.

At that point of time, I could not interpret this dream. I assumed that I must probably read Bhagwat Geeta once again. So I picked it up and read it with devotion, particularly this verse and left it at that. In retrospection, now there emerges a very clear and definite co-relation between my past events and blogging as those experiences are being used to explain many things without which I could not explain complicated topics such as this one. So many people have no faith in debts due to our family called pitra dosha which brings complications and problems in our lives. We never knew that trees had spirits or for that matter people who are no more would still help us in our ascension of Spirit like this Sage. It is he who has confirmed that the people in our family who are no more or negligence of our parents, siblings and other relatives can spoil our good fortune and bring dissatisfaction, sickness or pure bad luck to us, more so if we are facing a bad patch in our lives.

The old rishi *continued– “Babaji is God sent for all of you. He has mercy on every living creature. You are so very fortunate to be able to worship him in Pure state and Form in this life. This is your punya, good deeds. You have added many more punyas by asking for forgiveness for your clan. Babaji will manifest in you as light, knowledge, love and tapasya. Give all the fruit of your tapasya back to him so that he can use the tapafal, outcome of your spiritual efforts for the vridhi, escalation of Satya, truth in this world. Babaji has blessed your past generations by accepting your forgiveness and their redemption through you. Your future generations will be pious, healthy, happy and prosperous and spiritual in nature. One day you will print and publish a book of this blog of articles by which the society of pious souls shall benefit and they will uplift their spirits. They will atone for their misgivings and they will get redemption from past and present wrongful karmas and they will surge ahead in spiritual evolution. You and your family will be healthy, prosperous and spiritual. All your desires will be fulfilled and peace shall prevail in your present and future lives to come. Preach to the world the power of love, co-operation and harmony. Where ever there is Dharma, truth, there is God, peace, prosperity and inner happiness. I bless all those people who read these articles with reverence and faith in Mahavatar Babaji, and they too shall be showered with spiritual happiness and satisfaction, good health and prosperity.”

Part-B

Ultimate Divine realizations are for the brave hearts and not timid souls. The path of knowing Atma within oneself is a very long and consuming journey but the determined are unstoppable and will not rest till the top is reached.  My dear friends, if we compare this journey with the pilgrimage of tedious Kailash Mansarovar yatra, then we can divide our spiritual journey into three parts according to escalation and intensity. The three stages are low, medium and high. On the journey on this blog too, we were at low heights at segment A, then at medium height at B and now at segment C we are already on the higher level. Post 8 onwards, we have been moving up and up and have reached the top by now by touching upon very intricate and subtle issues such as delusion, mirage and Atma. At present we shall be introduced to what is mind or manas, prana, ahankar- mind, vital life force and ego respectively and types of ego, hurdles or doshas about which we have no idea and  finally how to release ourselves from the last remaining shreds of ego and desires.

I have been endowed with many wonderful blessings from Shri Mahavatr Babaji. He has educated me on many intricate metaphysical matters like-

What is Atma?

What is manas, mind?

What is prana?

How our ego is entrenched in our prana ?

How is one born again?

How should one die?

How we can shape our coming lives?

Reincarnation,

How to recognize our lost dear ones?

Why we again meet many people from previous lives ?? etc…

To get a grasp of subtle unseen forces within us, we will have to first understand the following things-

Atman –There is a Universal, all pervading, infinite, immortal Power or Force which is all comprehensive. It is called Atman, Brahma or Ishawara. It is present in the form of light and wisdom in all beings. It has no definite beginning or end hence is immortal. Atman can only be felt or experienced but cannot be described. Only a sacred soul can realize and know it. Those who do impure and profane acts can never know Atman, cannot even have belief and conviction of its existence. The glory, beauty and praise of Atman should not be sung before the defiled and desecrated spirits.

Jeeva or Jeevatma – A fraction of the Universal Force is present in us and it is called jeeva or individual self or human self. The human has mainly two impurities or vikaar and they are desire and ego because of which he gets deluded and forgets and fails to remember God and consequently suffers from troubles, problems, unrest and unhappiness.

Manas or mind In every individual jeeva there is present  manas or loosely called mind. A fragment of the Universal light is present in the individual. Out of this fraction, a little portion of the Universal Force and Light is present in the manas or mind. The mind is shaped in accordance to type of actions performed by the individual. It is the manas that feels and perceives and it has its own light, dim or bright depending on the person. The manas also has its own power depending on how well we behave, think  and act. The type of actions performed by us is responsible for the type of force that enters our mind. It entirely depends on the quality and type of actions performed by the individual thus attracting either negative or positive forces.

The power in the mind predetermines a set direction and path and shapes the lives to come. Manas compels us to act in the first place and it is the mind that suffers. After death, the body disintegrates, not the manas. The mind leaves one body and sets on its path and travels according to the karmas performed. According to its desires and performed actions, the mind creates a new body and moves on from the point it has already covered.

The mind is so powerful that it is everything. It possesses the power of sankalp, ichcha shakti – will power and the power to initiate an action. It is only when we have a will that we do something, we change ourselves, we give a definite course of line and direction to our thoughts and life as a whole. It is because of our desire that we are born and we die only when we have a desire to die.

The mind has immense powers. It can travel anywhere (telepathy), it can hear far off sounds (clairvoyance) and if the mind determines and decides to do something, it begins to connect and tap the Universal Energy which is positive and accomplishes impossible feats.

Tendencies of self doubt, skepticism, lack of faith in God are innate in the mind. It is self doubt that separates us from our Atman. They should be discarded.

In Yoga, the first step is to control the mind’s flow and curb it with discipline, self control and obedience. Once the mind is restrained, its restlessness is contained. When we do bhakti or have devotion, the ego begins to fade away slowly and one loses the passion, attachment and longing for worldly desires and ultimately the human discards the ego entirely for the sake of  bathing in God’s bliss. His identity mingles with that of the all pervading power like the iron which when melted in very  hot fire, melts  wholly after becoming red hot and is moulded in the shape which is desired.

The process of complete transformation is done and executed with the kripa of a guru. We must have full faith in ourselves and the Guru who completes the process of divinization for our good. The prana or vital life force is entwined intricately in the mind in a very subtle form and gives force and a concrete push to the mind. Desires give a shape to the mind and the prana give a direction. In the humans, this concept can be explained very well with this comparison and example as explained in the holy scriptures-  A blind man is unable to go forward as he cannot see and so is a lame man. The manas is the lame man and prana is the blind man. The mind cannot move if there is no force of prana while the prana have movement, they have no direction without the mind. They can however walk together by helping each other. The lame man shows the way and the blind supports the lame by giving its shoulder. The mind acts as eyes and the prana as crutches when the duo walk together. Desires are the catalysts.

Meditation makes the force of the prana feeble in its seamless and unrestricted movements. It quietens its senseless roar and curbs its dangerous speed. If one meditates for a very long time, the death of the subtle, hidden desires on its own is absolutely certain. And the countless desires which are unborn yet; however very, very faint they may be, are destroyed by the guru as dreams during the time we sleep by his thought power or sankalpa in the last phase.

When all the desires are completely dissolved and finished, Self Realization or Atma sakshatkar takes place naturally just like the day breaks and simultaneously night recedes. This journey is also of the ascension of the energy chakras beginning from throat chakra to third eye and eventually to crown chakra. In other words, we begin from vishuddha chakra to agya and eventually to brahmarandra. Vishuddha chakra is the center of mind or manas and is the first phase.  Agya Chakra is the center of breath or prana, the second phase and finally the Brahmarandra – the center of Atma, our final desired destination.

A human being has three levels or degrees of ego or ahankar– gross, subtle and very subtle. If we translate it in Hindi it is sthool, sukshma and kaaran  respectively.  The individual must get rid of the ego completely till its last shred to free itself of maya or prakriti.

Sthool, Gross ego-This is my house, my building, my son….

Sukshma, Subtle ego -I am a gyani, knowledgeable, I am sensible, intelligent, I know, I have understood everything. For such people further learning is impossible. People in this category love to hear their praise and find it difficult to handle criticism.

Kaaran- Ati sukshma ahankar, Extremely subtle ego is entrenched in our breath.

It is due to very subtle ego that one believes that he is the doer and  experiencer or karta and bhokta.

The prana or breath have to be purified of this impurity. Doing kriya or attending spiritual discourses only accelerates the purification of the prana but cannot destroy the very subtle ego completely. Prana can only be totally purified with the blessing of a saintly guru, Atmagyani guru on conditions of our surrendering completely and secondly if we have an intense desire to free ourselves from the suffering of recurring births and deaths.

These are two important preconditions if we wish to realize Atma. Please refer Why is Atman difficult to know ? once again to get a good understanding of this thought. By surrendering to the Guru, we cross vishuddha chakra, the throat chakra, the seat of manas or mind. It is the mind which stops one from submitting. When the pranas are completely purified, we cross the third eye centre or Agya Chakra about which explanation is given a little later.

When the Agya Chakra cleans completely, then the crown chakra begins to open gradually and the disciple begins to sense and experience Atman. There is a chief difference between understanding Atma intellectually and perceiving it. Atma cannot be ‘known’ but can be perceived within oneself. It is just a very subtle perception, a sensation of its presence inside, a conviction of its presence and a feeling of its existence beyond the senses and mental bodies. It is to be just felt. Atma can neither be explained to others nor can it be given in alms. It can be attained with the mercy of God; it can be conveyed and transferred from a Atmagyani guru to his disciple out of love. It is the selfless love of the guru which spontaneously flows to the disciple and flows as grace and benevolence. The Guru and the disciple both should be pure and selfless for this exchange.

As the prana become purified, our thoughts become pure and refined. Once the thoughts are purified, our actions become untainted, we become humble. Humility is achieved when the disciple crosses the last step of manas or mind. The pranas can be purified by worshipping the Atma gyani guru and not by maintaining silence or maun. If the disciple contemplates and thinks deeply on the guru for a long duration, his prana is purified completely whereas with pranayam the prana are purified to a good extent. By purification is meant the eradication of the subtlest ego, the thought of doership and the existence of individual self-‘I”.

There are very subtle desires or vasanas clinging to the prana flowing inside us and those desires cannot be destroyed by one’s own efforts as they cannot be detected. If the disciple has immense admiration and adoration for his Guru, if he worships him with his mind, body and soul, if the disciple immerses himself in the divine words of the guru, the seeds of the vasanas and unborn desires are destroyed. The brightness and light of divinity in the guru burns the vasanas of the sansara of the chela or shishya. The delusion of the jeeva that he is the doer and experiencer of the actions performed vanishes in the knowledge of Atma given by the paramgyani guru. He offers the results and fruits of all his actions to the guru, in return he gets peace and spiritual joy.

The disciple acquires true humility after this stage of development as he has no unpleasant feelings for anybody and is unbiased and selfless. Once awakened, initially he sees everyone as ignorant and uninformed but at a little later stage, the yogi has compassion and mercy for the people who are in sleep state as he sympathizes with their suffering and wishes to improve their deplorable condition. At this stage maun or silence is actual and  proper otherwise in silence is hidden subtle ego which can erupt as a volcano in some circumstances during the very long journey of God realization…..

Repeat the holy sound of Om, meditate on Om. Om is whole and complete in itself and shall give you wholeness. Om is Light itself.

Shwas+vasana=new birth Or

Breath+ desires= new birth.

When manas or mind enters a new body as new birth, it carries with itself past vasanas or desires, fruits of all past karmas, sanskaras or tendencies of past karmas etc. This is known as pranadosha or corruption of pranas and because of this, the prana of the disciple have to be purified to destroy all the past desires of the physical world experiences of all past lives. The desire to enjoy the physical world, the enjoyment of the pleasures derived out of the senses of material, the desire to relish the effects of the karmas done in the past by the jeeva is strongly embedded and hence the master cauterizes all the seed of the embedded desires to liberate him of unwanted and undesirable future consequences.

After the pranas are purified, they flow at a medium pace and the rhythm is tranquil. During meditation they slow down further and in sleep they are minimally present and frail in character. In the absence of desires and excitement created by desires, in the absence of mere thoughts of desires as well, the mind automatically flows in a calm rhythm and beat. When the mind and body become so calm, we are able to contemplate on Atma. Meditation on Atma, contemplation on Atma releases us from the clutches of repeated births and deaths and gives us mukti  or salvation. Therefore, the disciple must clear all debts of karmas and self- created desires.  To achieve the state of Atma or Super Consciousness, there are a few debts that one has to clear.

At the last and final stage of God realization, there are three types of debts that we must clear before we can see God. They are pitra rin,  matri rin and guru rin. They are debts towards our father, mother and teachers. If unpaid, they act like hurdles, obstacles and difficulties in the form of lingering mental as well as physical weakness, sickness, poverty, loss of respect and a host of other related problems. We must repay them now by respecting and serving our parents, elderly people and all teachers, doing charity, social service, helping and feeding the poor and by doing other types of good deeds in order to free us from the doshas or deficiencies as explained above.

I am eternally grateful to my holy Master who has cleared all the obstacles, weaknesses and impurities and has shown me Light, given me knowledge to free myself. As usual, words are never enough to thank Babaji. What can I give him in return? I have only my love to offer him today as my heart is brimming with thankfulness, gratitude and humble silence.

I recall a classic composition of Sant Kabir, the poet- saint of medieval India belonging to bhakti movement. I present this composition as a token of my gratitude towards my holy Master.

Sant Kabir has praised his Guru who has realized Brahma and has described the transformation process of self mingling , assimilating and uniting with the Infinite. This is what he has to say:

Hamare guru mile brahmagyani

Payi amar nishani…

Kaag palat guru hansa kinhi, dini naam nishani

Hansa pahuche sukhsagar mei, mukti bhare jahan pani

Hamare guru mile brahmagyani…

Jal beech kumbh, kumbh beech jal, bahar bhitar pani

Niksyokumbh jal jal mei samai. Yeh gati virle jani

Hamare guru mile brahmagyani…

Hai Athah thah santan mei. Dariya lahar samani

Jeevar jaal dal ka karihe, jab meen pighal bahi pani

Hamare guru mile brahmagyani…

Anubhav ka gyan, ujjwalta ki vani, so hai akath kahani

Kahat Kabir gunge ki sena. Jin jani un mani

Hamare guru mile brahmagyani…

Translation-

I have found a Brahmagyani Guru and

And got a gift of immortality…

My guru has changed me from crow to hansa (a bird equipped with the skill of separating water from milk) and given me the name of god.

I have been blessed with an ocean of divine happiness and now salvation is a small thing.

I have found a Brahmgyani guru……

There is an earthen pot in the river, there is water inside the pot.

There is water outside it. When the pot breaks, the water inside,

Mixes with the water outside, only rare people understand this

I have found a Brahmgyani guru……

The saints have a depthless depth in them, the wave shall mingle  in the waters of the ocean

How can a fisher man catch a fish which has dissolved in water?

Kabir says that this knowledge has come from experience,  speech is born out of purity, and the knowledge is endless.

The state that I have reached is indescribable, only those who know shall believe.

The state of Super Consciousness-II

#76

I have spent a few days in Delhi lately. There was a lot of greenery around and the house that I stayed in wore a deserted look once everyone living nearby went out to work.  There were no disturbing sounds in neighborhood as such and it was quiet during most of the day.  Moreover, there was a feeling of wellness and harmony in the atmosphere. On those days, my mind was very introverted and more often than not, I wished to either meditate or sit in solitude.

I completed the everyday work around a house on 18th Dec morning and sat down to meditate. Before long, I began to hear Buddhist chants in my inner ear. The pitch and tone of the chants were so nice and sacred to hear, very soothing and captivating to my heart.  I calmly listened to these chants and could visualize a monastery in the Himalayas in which some dedicated Buddhists monks with multiple beads in their necks were repeating the mantras feverishly before a lit lamp and fragrant incense sticks. As I listened attentively to the Buddhist mantras for a few minutes, the sound of Om began to reverberate in my ears and the chanting of mantras was leaving away. Soon after, the mantras stopped ringing and I heard the recurrence of the sacred sound of Om ringing continuously. The sound of Om made me very peaceful and it silenced my mind completely. The interminable thoughts became completely still in no time and I plunged in deep tranquility and peace. I sat in this state for quite some time when…

I called upon God to pray and I implored, “My sweet God, may I never lose sight of you, may I forever worship you, may I never lose your memory in me, and may I never stop praying to you. May my heart always bind with you and may I never get too entangled in this external world and please bless me God so that I forever think of you. May I always do natmastak, bow profoundly to you all the time, even while I am asleep.”

God quickly responded by murmuring these words of disclosure and good counsel, “Babaji is very humble like Gurla Mandhata. Do you recall the mountain Gurla Mandhata, standing majestically opposite sacred mountain Kailash on your pilgrimage?  It is always bowing at Kailash although it is bigger and taller than it. Mahavatar Babaji is like Gurla Mandhata- tall and majestic yet always so humble. Be like him. The spiritual horizon and the perceptions that you have experienced during the preceding days here is from agya chakra or third eye level. You have had experiences of Super Consciousness sometimes but you must stabilize in it. If you wish to go higher, then Babaji’s compassionate Grace will take you to the level of Gurla Mandhata or to the State of Super consciousness and perfect humility.”

I recalled my Kailash Mansarovar yatra when I saw Gurla Mandhata mountain. It is positioned right opposite Mt. Kailash and amusingly when I saw the mountain many times, I discovered that it had many moods and changing faces. We were informed by our group leader that the mythological story is that this mountain is a devotee of Mt. Kailash and that it is its desire to always prostrate humbly to holy Mt.Kailash, the holiest of all the mountains.

After knowing this, I prayed to Mahavatar Babaji- “Babaji, it is my most earnest and sincere pray to you in this sacred moment. Hey Prabho! Destroy all my sins and mistakes of all my past lives. May I never ever err, may I always only serve Ishwara, the Holy Lord! May I serve you all my life and in all coming lives too. May I spread your words and teachings. Remove my darkness, all my darkness for forever and forever!!

Shri Mahavatar Babaji’s merciful nature acknowledged and accepted my prayers in no time. A series of beautiful visions began to emerge before my eyes like an appeasing movie as I kept my eyes closed and sat comfortably for the time that flowed. What I saw was so benevolent, so magnificent that I feel I should share with all his devotees, followers and other readers too.

I envisioned Shri Babaji walking with very quick steps and in this way denoting the urgency of his expedition and importance of time’s utility. I was walking next to him and trying to catch up with him on a hilly ground. He looked very happy and enthusiastic that day or else he is somber and serene. He took me to a very beautiful place full of tall, green trees which resembled fir and deodar. The ambiance was of a thin forest with many trees growing on a mountain top. The shade of the trees was cooling and under it was situated a beautiful pond. It had many colorful lotus flowers floating in it. He took me to the divine pond where the atmosphere was saturated with divine purity and serenity and the place resembled and felt like a paradise.

Babaji went ahead and plucked one lotus flower, then another, then some more and then many more from the pond one by one. The petals had tiny drops of  water on them making them look all the more pure and sacred. The bunch of lotus looked so pretty in his arms and I was cheerful by looking at the lovely bouquet and the image of exuberant Babaji both at one place. Just then, while holding the flowers in his divine arms, Babaji took one white lotus and gave it to me. He looked at me as if waiting for me to express something. I didn’t. After a very short pause, he broke in a spell of mystic laughter and divine joy. He pulled out one purple lotus from his bundle and gave it to me in my hand. I held it in bewilderment and at the same time I was overjoyed at his kind gesture. Without waiting, he now gave me a pink lotus, then a yellow one and a few more one after the other. All the flowers from his arms were in mine by now and in utter amazement, I looked at the collection of heavenly lotuses piled up and was absolutely numb because events were occurring  at such rapid and unexpected ways. I stood there totally incomprehensible not knowing what to do or say to him.

He put up a question to me, “Do you know why I gave you the lotuses?” I hurriedly considered a lotus flower in Buddhism, as an emblem in many spiritual organizations, on books and sacred places but I did not know the present connotation and the co-relation. I did not reply.

He had a white lotus in his right hand and with a mysterious smile he said, “White is for purity and peace. Take this.” I now received a white lotus from him.

Babaji had a purple lotus in his hand after this. He asked me, “What is purple for?” I had no answer. “Tranquility”, he replied. “Take this.” I received a deep lavender lotus from his sacred hand.

After all this, he again asked me, “What is pink for?” I stood quietly and wished not to answer.

“Love. Take this lotus also. It is for you.”

“What is yellow for?” Now I gathered some courage and answered in humility. “I don’t know Babaji.” He looked pleased and smiled slightly from the corner of his mouth. He said, “Enlightenment, knowledge. Now take this yellow lotus also.”

In the next moment, an unanticipated development took place. Babaji burst out laughing loudly like an ecstatic yogi and began to dance throwing his hands up in the air, turned his neck round and round and sang with merriment and ecstasy. He then said, “I have given you peace, love, joy, ananda, tranquility and transcendental knowledge to give to this world. I am spreading these virtues through your web log on the net in modern times in this world. From now onward, more and more people will read and receive these gifts of God from you. My idea of spreading God’s love and peace is successful, is successful, is successful. Then he circled round and round like an intoxicated saint singing and chanting God’s holy name. He resembled Chaitanya Mahaprabhu singing and chanting God’s holy name while diving in celestial bliss.

Understanding by now that it was an auspicious moment granted by God, I did not want to lose the golden opportunity of a very sacred hour. I realized that I would be obliged and my prayers would be surely answered. Therefore I pleaded, “Holy Babaji, I pray to you at this moment and hour, please bless me that I never ever make any mistakes in my present and forthcoming lives. May I always remember God. May my memory of God forever be revitalized and it should never be erased or corrupted. May I always do God’s service, may I always do your work and may I always spread your divine fragrance through your words and teachings.”

Babaji smiled at me softly and with overflowing love said very sweetly, “My sweet child, Babaji becomes pleased with devotion, with love, with sacrifice, with service.   I am pleased with those devotees who have a keen desire for seeking God and serving Him. I fulfill all such desires. And those people who do not have this desire yet, they should instill purity, devotion and love in their hearts. One day, they will also attain God. Once and for all purify your inner being, inner heart. And after cleaning, forever keep yourself in a pure state so that your future lives are pure, beautiful, worthy and for service of humanity. I love those who love God. Today, who so ever will wish for this desire, I shall grant and fulfill it.”

I chanted and thanked God throughout the days that followed for this wonderful blessing and love.

                                 Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya

                                 Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya

                                 Om Namo Bhagwate Vasudevaya…

Since I have discovered Babaji, I have always wanted to know something about his personal life. It is because whatever little information that is available to public now through Autobiography of a Yogi by Paramhansa Yogananda or other books, the focus has always been on Babaji’s interaction with his devotees. Random communications, his counsel, advice to devotees are present in the books. Nothing is documented about his birth, birthplace or early child hood, personal life etc. Everything is mysterious about him because he leads a very secluded life and is extremely reclusive by nature. Ever since Babaji has come in my life, it has been my lingering desire to get to know him personally and to have an intimate bond and connection with him internally. I have longed to know what was his state of mind when he was born, what did he perceive as a child, what was his state and stage of enlightenment, how could he acquire the highest state in such a tender age and similar things. My compelling desire has made me visit Shri Badrinath temple many times and I have also visited a few places associated with Babaji’s life out of mere devotion and unshakeable faith in him. So many times, he has told me to visit some special place without my fully understanding its meaning and significance affecting my life-both personal and spiritual. It is only now that all the pilgrimages and visits to holy places undertaken in the past few years are bearing fruit and I can see a clear picture with his kind grace emerging out of all that.

Dear friends, today is 9th January and it is late evening. I have not yet compiled my article completely. I have been anxious in the last three to four days wondering about how the post should turn out to be, how should I wrap up since I only had the narration of my vision with me which you have just read. As the date of my submission of this post was nearing and I was completely blank, throughout the day I have prayed to God to tell me what should I write about Mahavatar Babaji.  It is not easy to discover or know much about him as he is very humble, shy and reclusive. I surrendered to God absolutely.  I meditated, prayed and pleaded. I sat on the sofa just below Babaji’s photo some time back and closed my eyes and remembered him with intensity and I expressed my desire, “Babaji, you are playing hide and seek with me. Until you relent, how can I tell the world who you were, where you were born, why did you incarnate and what was your mission in life at that time? My very dearest, my beloved Master, reveal thyself, reveal thyself, please reveal thyself… It is my very humble request to you please tell me something about your past and present lives so that my life’s mission is accomplished. If I am able to bring your devotees and your dear ones closer to you; if I can tell this world that there exists a great soul like you hidden from the public gaze and if I can help you in some minuscule measure in your worldwide mission of uplifting the humanity at large, then the purpose of my life is met. I wish for nothing, I want to know just about you.”

As I said these words, my body did not move or stir a bit. There were a few fleeting moments of absolute quietude. There was complete silence after I prayed to God and waited till Babaji responded to my earnest request. As I was sitting still, I saw an image of my own body in a meditative lotus posture in front of my shut eyes.  I saw a big white lotus flower with a yellow centre. The lotus flower was placed at the spot between my eyebrows and its white petals were in full bloom and spreading over my entire upper head. Its stem was placed on my spinal cord and coincided with it. Staring at the lotus flower I became all the more still and I immediately became peaceful like never before.

I gazed at this flower for a short while and basked in exclusive peaceful times. I don’t know how much time had lapsed but after that I perceived a medium-sized pink lotus placed on my heart chakra. The flower was open and I could feel my heart throbbing faintly as it remained there. By now I could see myself explicitly sitting in a perfect lotus posture with the white lotus on my head and the pink one on my heart. Two words flashed before me and I uttered, “Love and peace, I love divinity, I love God.”

A little later, the image and sound of Babaji’s divine words resonated when he made a prophesy, “In 2053, I will no longer remain in seclusion and shall come out in public in a world forum.” Lifting a book in his right arm he said, “This book will be a proof for the world to see what I tell you now.”

In an instant, the face of Shri Mahavatar Babaji emerged in me and he thus began to speak to me, “I was always born in India and in future also I shall take birth in India. It is a sacred and pious land. Since thousands of years, the sages and saints have done tapasya here whose positive rays are still imbued in the atmosphere. My last birth was one thousand, eight hundred and fifty-seven years ago.

I was born of a humble Brahmin priest in India in a fishermen’s village in today’s Tamilnadu’s coastal area. I was born in an enlightened state and I came for a specific purpose and mission. I brought along with me ** yoga, tapa, dharma, satya- unity with God, spiritual penance, righteousness and truth respectively.   You should also follow these virtues.

My father was a learned man and I heard the Vedic mantras being chanted when I was in my mother’s womb. I knew most of them by heart and wished to revive their lost meaning once I was born soon. The noise and clutter emanating out of the spiritual ignorance of people disturbed me and I had vowed in my mother’s womb that I shall try to eradicate that and awake people from deep slumber. I was aware of my time and place of birth and I had already chalked out my future plans to work for God. So I started very early and was already meditating in the womb! I was born with prayers on my lips and a mission as big as the earth in my mind. Therefore, I maintained silence all the time and hardly ever spoke!! Words are very confusing and create so much trouble. Speech is only good if used with humility and kindness. I hated wars because they create more problems than before and if peace is lost on earth, the proof of God as peace and love is lost. All human problems can be solved only through peace and love. Hatred culminates in ignorant hearts and should be shunned at all costs.

As it was not destined that I lead a life of a householder, I was kidnapped by a man from Kabul and sold for a pittance thus separating from my mother and father. The trader to whom I was sold in Kalkatta was a kindhearted man and he freed me. God directed me on a path that would forever change my life thenceforth. I saw a band of monks travelling and I discreetly joined them. As I was observing maun or silence even at the age of six, they did not think it fit to ask me any questions. I joined the band and reached Kashi, today’s Banaras. I visited Bodh Gaya and Lumbini during my very short stay there. As I was so attuned to the Vedic hyms and chants, I did not have to memorize them. Instead I saved a lot of time and used it for contemplation. Soon I began to give sermons and people came from far and wide to listen to me at a very young age of ten. One night, I decided to leave the place quietly as giving sermons to people was never my goal.

I took a boat from the shores of Kanya Kumari and reached Sri Lanka. The forests were very thick and the number of people much less then. I wanted to maintain uninterrupted silence for a few years so I hid myself in the thick forests of Katargama in Sri Lanka away from the noise and found an old Banyan Tree. I sat under it to meditate and did not move for days. Swami Kartikeyan blessed me. I sat near his place of samadhi and tapas.

Rishi Boganathar saw me in tapasya and gave me initiation in Sudarshan Kriya. The Sudarshan Kriya practiced now a days is a very simplified form of the original. Earlier Kriya was not practiced by the homemakers as its sanctity cannot be maintained by them. By practicing Kriya uninterruptedly, the need for food for the body became unnecessary. I mastered the art of living without food, sunshine, air and water for incessant days. The glory of divinity and victory over nature shone in the glow that was emanating out of me. The radiance and glow was many kilometers wide and could be seen by the rishis and munis in that area and those sitting in meditation in caves and hills. Maharishi Agastya was sent to me on the behest of God to give me more powers and siddhis as my workload in future would require me to use them as my tools in my endeavours to do the service of God.

I attained the highest state of acute enlightenment after mastering the highest kriya which I learnt from rishi Boganathar and Maharishi Agastya and since then I am engaged in carrying out the work of God. Though my body has become immortal, I shall shed it once my mission is accomplished.

With yogatapa, penance done with yoga, I have made my body incorruptible so that there are no hurdles of sickness and decay. The body degenerates in normal circumstances and as my mission is the spiritual evolution of humans and the progress in humans is very slow, I have accomplished a state where the body cannot decay or degenerate. All this was possible because of my intense Ichcha shakti.

Those people who are devoted to me, who pray to me with keen interest in serving others, to uplift themselves, I grant them boons. Their hurdles and struggles in life steadily vain, the family life becomes congenial, their health improves drastically and their mind begins to engage and gets occupied in spiritual practices and yoga with much interest. It is only and only the one with devotion who can attain me. Mei keval aur keval, keval sharaddha se prapt hota hun!!

Babaji began to explain to me in detail at this juncture about the pitfalls during evolution and progress of a human soul. He simplified and said- Poorva gyan aur vartmaan gyan. When translated it means -Previous knowledge and Present Knowledge.

When born, every individual brings with him wisdom acquired by him from his previous lives. That is Previous knowledge or Purva Gyan. And Present knowledge or Vartaman gyan is the wisdom that we are acquiring in our present life.

The wisdom that we have carried forward in this life gets corrupted in the company of worldly, unwise, evil and lethargic people. By coming in constant companionship and interaction, we imbibe obtuseness, vices and impurities. So keep away from evil, vicious, greedy and immoral people. Benefit from the company of learned and wise. Enjoy silence and solitude.

Divulging about my soul he informed me – “When you were not born, you made such intense and compassionate prayers to God to free you from the bondage of your karmas from past life that God heard you after all, although it was not at all possible to even out or burn the effects of your humongous karmas in just one life. Because of your very intense Ichcha shakti to free yourself, there was so much power in your prayers that God gave you one chance to liberate yourself in this life. Although there were innumerable troubles, hardships and problems in the guise of hurdles, you did not relent and you overcame them. To be able to overcome so many hurdles, one must have strong sankalpa shakti and kriya shakti both. The force of the sanchit karmas is so much that it is comparable to the gushing and flooding of dam water.

We must possess enough inner powers of ichcha shakti, sankalpa shakti and kriya shakti to contain and cancel the force of our sanchit karmas.

You have an irresistible desire to make use of your present life to serve others and therefore, I have given you the seva or service of seekers and aspirants through  this weblog.

When all the sanchit karmas are exhausted and burnt, then one attains the state of Super Consciousness or Atma. It is the state of Brahma, the eternal truth, peace, harmony and bliss.

Most of the sages and saints of today have themselves not reached the stage of third eye or agya chakra and they are advocating and teaching yoga to their disciples. But that is also alright, we must try to learn from everyone and move on.

Gurus who do not teach you dhyana, dharana, meditation and concentration respectively, they can never be able to take you to the state of samadhi and permanent bliss. Seekers who wish to reach and attain the highest must have a Param Gyani Guru or great master who shall liberate you from the consequences of karmas of all your past lives lived so far. And who has the potential of giving you a new lease of life full of happiness and serenity and a life of knowledge of Supreme Truth so that you never again create karmas of ignorance. Therefore, give up all unproductive activities and perform only valuable and positive activities, do not waste your time and make your life worthy and commendable. Add value to your life.”

Babaji again went back to tell me more about himself. He divulged about his tapas and intense spiritual practices done. “After the initiation of the highest level of Kriya, my body became unconquerable and invincible. My senses became extremely acute and I could no longer bear to hear the sound of clatter and any noisy words. Therefore, I decided to meditate in a place where there would be no disturbing sounds and I headed for the Himalayas on foot. I found a cave in a place where there was no human soul and I meditated in freezing climate without any cloth over me to test my abilities. Once assured, I offered all my accomplishments to God and asked him to now let me exit the world at the age of just fourteen! God’s answer was, “Give me this body; I shall use it for a purpose that no one has done before. I shall accomplish with it that no one has accomplished before.” I only bowed in front of that Divine Light and uttered, “It is yours.”

The samadhi state that I am in today is continuing for years and I shall relinquish this body once the cycle or kaal chakra of the kalyug changes to sat yuga- from the present age of machines to the age of truth and peace.

My dear child, you have never questioned me and have followed all my instructions and requests with full conviction and faith. I have sent you to many places about which you knew nothing but you took my words as words of God. I have sent you to my birth place and the places where I have meditated. The yantra made at my birth place is very sacred and you have seen it. It is the spot where I was born and the spot still emits great vibrations of ichcha shakti or the power of will. I had a very persistent and strong desire to help and salvage human beings. If you can concentrate on that spot, you will develop that same power within you.

And the two huge Banyan trees that you saw on the edge of the compound wall, they possess very great powers of sankalpa shakti. To emancipate your soul, you must inculcate these special powers or else tamas or darkness envelops us and we bury ourselves in sunken depths of spiritual ignorance.”

Dear friends, Shri Mahavatar Babaji has inspired and encouraged all of us by saying these memorable words of eternal wisdom which I leave in the end, “So my dear children, awake, have mercy on yourself and enlighten yourself with the help of those souls who are never reluctant to salvage you and redeem your Spirits in Truth and eternity.   Hari Om Tatsat !

                    Hari Om  Tatsat!

                     Hari Om Tatsat!!”…

Forever in reverent thankfulness and gratitude for this blessed gift. I gently bow once again with reverence to God, Shri Mahavatar Babaji and all my gurus for their kindness, compassion and love bestowed on me and you on this very sacred day.

Please note-This blog is structured as and stands on 4 pillars-** Yoga, Tapa, Dharma and Satya.

The state of Super Consciousness-I

#75

Part-A

Dear readers, I presume that you have appreciated anecdotes and pictures of my yatra which was undertaken so far, but this post does not have any discussion and photos of Kailash Mansarovar as the topic that I have picked up this time demands a different approach altogether. The post is lengthy and voluminous and has been divided in two parts. Those of you who have just arrived please read the previous post- How to increase the level of your consciousness?-III for the definition of Super Consciousness.

I hope you liked reading the previous articles and they must have given you new insights and intuition as much as they have given me. I would like to inform you that the journey that I have undertaken along with Shri Mahavatar Babaji and you on this blog is becoming very interesting at this juncture. There is a tinge of thrill, immense exhilaration and joy as I get exposure to new mystic revelations with each passing day as we proceed to higher steps of our ascent.  At this intersection, I am eager to  share with you a very fascinating episode that took place with me freshly on a trip to Delhi. This post is unique and very different in presentation in the sense that we also have a story teller in the end of this episode. The storyteller is a Banyan Tree and the protagonist is one grand Master, a Himalayan Yogi.

How to read this post?

The article has become lengthy as I had to weave my many present and past spiritual experiences and knit them together. Churn and then conclude the eternal knowledge that is underlying and flowing silently in these experiences. This and the latter posts can be summarized into one theme – that of Super Consciousness and you may break this post into many parts and treat each event, story or experience as a whole. The topic is complex but can be made simple by breaking it into many small, simple concepts. Once when everything is understood and absorbed, the main concept can be understood in entirety. There will be three parts on Super Consciousness and the complete picture will come alive after all three are presented to you in a row.

So we begin with a very simple story which will lead us to a grave and pensive knowledge in the end. The post is narrative in nature and my attention has been on its crux and gravity of the spiritual precept instead of my writing skills and lucidity.

About the special Boddhi Tree I encountered unexpectedly

The Banyan tree is also called the spiritual tree, the Boddhi tree and is held sacred in India. It can live for hundreds of years and sometimes a thousand and above in rare cases. The tree is sacred because of the energy and power it emits. It has very saatvik, pure energy emanating out of it and therefore it is an ideal place to contemplate and meditate under or around it. The air it throws out is very pure and full of oxygen and the vibrations given are holy in nature. Out of so many Banyan trees some are unique and outstanding because of their special nature. You will soon discover what makes one Banyan Tree different from other, one sadhu or yogi different from another, how to derive optimum advantage from the great Masters, how to make very quick spiritual progress by utilizing their spiritual knowledge that they bestow on us and much, much more…..

I was in Delhi for a week a few days back and I took some time off and visited Sri Aurobindo Ashram for meditation; and this time also for one interesting assignment. Since the past many weeks, I was looking for a real picture of a Banyan tree for the blog in case I ever needed it for future posts.  I was not successful in my search in Mumbai. So I thought I will go the Ashram in Delhi and take a nice picture of a Banyan Tree, there will some. I took my camera and eventually managed to find the right type of tree in that area and I took a few good pictures. However, what I never imagined in my life was that I would be so blessed to receive such rare and worthy insights in the occult and spiritual world and that too from a Banyan Tree!! By occult I mean the unseen forces in nature and not tamasik or the dark  forces. However, before I tell you more about it, let’s talk about the other associated aspect of this post-

The Himalayan Yogis

The Himalayan Mountains are the longest in range and height in the world. Not only are they longest, but they also have some rare species of flora and fauna which are about to be extinct now. In addition to this, what we do not know is that since the past ten thousand years or so, the Himalayas in India, Tibet and Nepal are the abode and haven of the sages, practicing yogis and sadhus or ascetics. Since the rest of the world is cut off from the cold and freezing Himalayas, it makes a perfect haven for the rishis and sages to do their tapas, spiritual practices of Yoga, to compose hymns and to write holy books and scriptures. The mountains are dotted with so many caves hidden from the sight of the people. The mystics in Tibet have specialized in occult science, meditation and chanting. The caves are secreted for a good reason, impurities of the people defile them and their intrusion is an obstruction in their attempts. The worldly thoughts of the people distract their mind from meditating upon God. They wish to remain pure like the incorruptible water of sacred river Ganga. The real yogis get happiness from the peace that they get from meditation and quietude of the mountains. They want to have a continuous link and communion with the Higher Consciousness.  The Vedas, the Puranas, The Mahabharata, Sandhya Bhashya and so many other holy texts have originated and were written by the sages in the valleys, caves and abodes of these magnificent mountains. Many more noteworthy known and unknown scriptures apart from what have been just mentioned have also been composed in these mighty mountains.

They mentally transmit positive thought waves in the atmosphere

Although the Himalayan sages do not have much physical contact with the external world, but they certainly radiate and transmit celestial vibrations and wave lengths of Super Consciousness in the environment far and wide. The spiritual and godly vibrations emitting from the minds of the realized yogis since time unknown make the Himalayas sacred and pious and hence they have acquired a special place among all the mountains. The whole atmosphere, the smell in the air and the trees have something very special about them. There are yogis who have achieved many great siddhis or supernatural powers many of them have become ageless, immortal and radiate rays of illumination reaching out several kilometers. Some of them are practicing and living yoga since the past few hundred years thereby purifying the whole region. They have been helping humanity in a silent way by spreading divine vibrations and also by diffusing rays of holy and spiritual thoughts thus making the Himalayas sacred and holy. So many times the answers and solutions that we receive in distress and genuine needs are not ours. They have been answered by them!! They know and understand that it is not possible for us to give up our modern life style and do not expect us to undergo hardships of tapasya to know the truth. But nevertheless, they help us at whatever level and stage we are by mentally transmitting thought waves in the atmosphere. Hence we find solutions, our confusion gets cleared and there is clarity of thought. Such holy souls are very selfless in nature and are always helping mankind and this is their service to God.

Mahavatar Babaji is one such outstanding holy incarnation

He is meditating and living with a group of a few trusted and very advanced yogis in the secret caves of Himalayas living for just one purpose- to help mankind and the human race as a whole to evolve in Spirit. And also to make this planet more peaceful, worth living and to avoid any conflict between two or more nations. He is a living example for the world to see the full potential and possibilities of human development in Spirit. He is a Maha Purush because he has crossed all the limitations of maya or prakriti and has achieved immortality. He answers to so many people’s doubts, questions and curiosities without their even being aware of it. He helps innumerable aspirants on their journey of self realization and shows them their future path in direct and oblique ways.

How do the yogis achieve the highest levels of Consciousness?

Each man possesses a mental body of his own. It is the energy of the kind of thoughts that dwell and are nurtured in the mind. His intellectual property, his process of thinking and the kind of thoughts nurtured are all included in the mental body. Each thought that we send out, each thought that we receive and the cumulative power of it all makes a man what he is. Moreover, it this thought power to which we are attracted in some people or repelled depending on their quality of thought.

Every thought has its own vibration and wave length. The nearer it is to Super Consciousness, the higher its power. The lower the thought, the denser the wave. The higher the consciousness of the person, the subtler the thought. Our thought waves float in the ether like sound waves. One’s mind is able to catch the wavelength of a similar thought. We should be careful in mixing with people; spiritual aspirants should try to mingle with strong, healthy and positive minds.

There are three types of power that a man possesses in his consciousness or chetna.

1. Ichcha Shakti – the power of one’s desire, one’s motivation, initiation and wish.

2. Sankalpa Shakti – thought power and the power of one’s will and determination.

3. Kriya Shakti – the power to do actions and translate ideas, intuition, perceptions and dreams into truth and reality.

First comes the Ichcha Shakti. It is the latent power bestowed upon humans by God to initiate an act. Without this power, the force to initiate and start an action does not come into play. The stronger the desire or ichcha shakti, the more possibility for the actions to manifest. Desires should be positive and constructive in nature. It should be used to promote only positive developments in oneself. They should be cultivated and enhanced by practice of concentration and positive affirmations. One must be cautious not to put this ability to a distorted goal. It should not be used for incorrect, detrimental or unsound goals. For example Bhishma Pitamaha in Mahabharat story had the boon of dying at will. If he had used this boon before the Kurukshetra war, there would have been no war in all probabilities. Duryodhana would not have fought this war because he was depending on Bhishma Pitamaha to kill Arjun, the infallible archer. As no one could kill Bhishma Pitamaha and he was a great warrior, Duryodhana’s plan was to kill Arjuna through Bhishma Pitamaha. So Ichcha Shakti should not be used for mischievous, detrimental as well as vicious acts. One must use it to its full potential for one’s own growth and development and for helping mankind. Selfish interests are always going to prove sour and bitter in the end, hence this power should be used to benefit oneself and others positively.

Sankalpa Shakti –This word is also used for determination many a times. Sankalpa here means the rise of a thought, the power of a person’s thoughts hidden in the mind. Every thought that is born is like a wave in an ocean and has its magnetic power. It draws to itself positive or negative circumstances. The more positive our thoughts, the more power we possess and vice versa. Attention should be paid by us every time we think and to our quality of thoughts. We should discard the evil, bad and weak thoughts. In their place cultivate and nurture positive, constructive, creative, beneficial, powerful and healthy thoughts.

King Drupad of Panchal vowed to kill the man who was once his best friend, Drona out of enmity and hatred.  Hence he wished for a son who would one day grow up and kill his enemy. He performed a putrayeshti yagya to beget a son for this purpose. Such detrimental thoughts should always be destroyed immediately.

Kriya Shakti– Kriya means to do, shakti means power, the power and force to perform actions in humans. Some people have more energy and force to work than others. The reason for this is that both the body and mind of such people are robust and healthy and they are in tune with nature’s powers. Such people not only perform better than others but they also produce better results in shorter duration because of their kriya shakti. Such people are proficient and they produces works of excellence, creativity, beauty, grace and meaningful  subjects in their areas. They reach their pinnacle of excellence at an early stage.

All the three shaktis are divine powers only but its uses are different. We need to become aware of these three latent powers in us. These shaktis push us to move up in great strides on the spiritual path and we are transformed quickly. We need all these shaktis as we progress our way up as we progress. They should be cultivated and increased by the practice of concentration and meditation. Our focus should always be on our own welfare and liberation.

The yogis know about these hidden powers and they practice austerity, self control, control of senses and mind, contemplation, read scriptures, do service or seva, give up all the vices to purify their being. No wonder their consciousness is cleaner, purer and superior than the masses.

If one wishes to raise his consciousness, then first he must want it,  he must have a desire. It should not be a fickle desire like the flame of a lamp on a stormy night but instead it must be a steady, unmoved flame. This is Ichcha Shakti.

Once the desire or ichcha is ignited, the seeker must  make his desire firm, discuss with the guru and the peer and then do a pratigya or make a pledge . Once the sankalp  or determination has been done, then we must act on it.

Act with all your interest, cheerfulness and never ending interest. Take proper diet, and nutrition, sufficient sleep to stay healthy and to promote good health in order to be more productive and efficient to do the worldly duties and spiritual practices regularly. Exercise regularly and meditate fervently. Endure disturbance created by negative forces and make them your stepping stones.

Part-B

Now the story about the unusual Banyan tree

In the morning before I left for the Ashram, I meditated at home as usual in the morning. To my surprise, Sri Aurobindo surfaced in my mind and informed me that there are five main verses in Bhagwad Geeta. Out of these one is verse 1 of Chapter 15

Urdhva mulam adhah shakhamashwatham prahuravyayam I

Chandasi yasya parnani yastam veda sa vedavit II

I was thankful to him after I got the summary of a great scripture like Bhagwad Gita from a renowned rishi. I was looking forward eagerly to go to the Ashram in the morning and spending a few hours there meaningfully.

Once I reached the Ashram, I asked a few people if there is a Banyan tree in the complex but all they said was though there are a few, they do not know the exact location of any. They tried to help me in looking for the spiritual tree by guessing and remembering faintly of their placement but in vain. After my initial failed attempts and spending about one hour on it with them, I fell back upon my intuition. I did not want to go back without finding this special tree. I decided to find this tree myself. I walked back to the place where I remembered I once saw a Banyan tree many years ago. I reached a coppice and at last found a big Banyan tree hidden among the other growth of commonly found trees like neem, mango etc. I spotted the tree exactly where I thought it should have been standing. I was absolutely euphoric the moment I saw this tree and in a state of triumph, I dumped my bag and woolens on the dusty ground and got my camera readied to take its first pictures to remember that unusual day.

Looking at it with right intent and good focus, I got a feeling that no one must have spotted and cared for this special tree as there were other striking beautiful trees which were blooming. Certainly they were far more attractive and people in maximum  number must be getting a good view of those beautiful trees. I saw the tree carefully and with keen interest. It was huge, its canopy was large, the trunk was fairly wide but strangely the roots that were coming out of the tree were exceptionally thick. So old, strong and firm were the roots that there were tertiary roots coming out of the primary roots. They looked like pillars of a temple or building. I was a bit perplexed as I couldn’t assess the age of the tree; the roots seemed too old while the rest of the body looked much younger in comparison.

As I was taking the photos, the commentary of Geeta Chapter 15 and  verses 1, 2 and 3 which Sri Aurobindo said to me in the morning. They ran through my mind and I recalled its meaning. I deciphered is meaning and thought to myself-

“The world consists of mostly unaware men. They come in this world, first they get attached to the fleeting world, they spread the roots of entanglement far and wide and then they get lost in the web of ‘maya’. They create a sansara, a world of their own, full of attachment without ever knowing the creator of this universe.

While the gyani or yogi on the other hand, enters the world, looks for the seed, the creator of the universe, Purushshottam, the Divine Father by reading the scriptures, Vedas, goes to a guru solves the puzzle called sansara and then creates a divine world for himself without getting caught in the decaying, ever changing and fleeting world…..”

No wonder the worldly man is compared to an inverted Banyan tree in the first verse!

I went home after I took these pictures and at night when everything fell silent after I lay in my bed, the Banyan Tree of the Ashram appeared before me quite unexpectedly as a soul of a man and thus spoke to me. The conversation that took place between us is very mesmerizing and left me spellbound for the next few days. It was my first super natural experience when the soul of a holy Banyan Tree spoke to me and gave me spiritual knowledge.

Banyan Tree: “Today you came to me and you have worshiped me; I am very pleased with you. I have been standing quietly for so many years and nobody glances at me. Everyone is attracted to the external beauty of other trees and gets swayed by them. You have come all the way from so far to look at me and take my photos! I am very happy to be on your blog because it belongs to Shri Mahavatar Babaji. The area of the Ashram which has the samadhi ashes and meditation hall has divine light. Can you see that?”

Me: “Yes, now I can. I see two big circles of light. One is on top of the relic and the other on top of the meditation hall.”

Me: “How old are you?”

Banyan Tree: “A few hundred years. Three hundred and twenty one to be exact.”

Me: “But you don’t look that old. You have a slighter trunk. How come?”

Banyan Tree:  “Because  I don’t have ichcha to be so big. I had the desire to be only spiritual and holy. Trees have prana or life force inside them. Look at me in the middle, can you see the silver light inside me?”

Me: “Yes, I do.”

Banyan Tree: “That’s my prana or energy which I give to others. There is energy also in the leaves and other parts of the tree but maximum life force is in the centre of the tree in my trunk. Look again.”

Me: “I am seeing it.”

Banyan Tree: “Trees have two main things -Spirit and life force- Atma and prana respectively. Each tree has its own Spirit and it has vital life force called prana. If the tree has a desire or ichcha shakti to help others selflessly and to be holy in nature, then it grows very big in size. Most Banyan trees have either of these desires while a few have both the desires, hence the difference in nature of each tree.”

“Recall the gigantic Peepal  Tree that you saw in Murugan temple in Katargama in Sri Lanka.* ( image in the end of the post) It has both- Ichha Shakti and Sankalpa Shakti. So it is very, very big and is also spiritual and holy. And my child, that tree can hear also! Therefore, whoever comes to worship it, say their prayers there, they have wishes fulfilled. Those who come to quietly meditate under it, gain a lot of power to overcome their hurdles on the spiritual path and consequently make quick and hasty progress.”

Me: “No wonder, Hindus and Buddhists alike come in large numbers to worship this gigantic tree!”

Banyan Tree:  “Not all Banyan or Peepal Trees are powerful and very pious. Just a few have a great desire to grow big in size and to be holy too like the one you saw on your pilgrimage in Sri Lanka.”

A spark was felt in my brain at this moment and I recalled this particular momentous event of mine. In Nov 2003, I attended a spiritual retreat of Yogoda Satsanga Society (YSS) in Ranchi.  At 4.00 am, I had a very vivid vision. I saw a very huge Banyan tree which was shining and was made of gold. It had a very vast and thick canopy which subsequently covered a massive ground. There were innumerable thick roots falling from its branches and they touched and penetrated in the ground. The roots were so strong and firm that they looked like sturdy pillars on which the tree rested. The tree had very bright radiating golden rays of Light spreading outwardly in all directions. Shri Mahavatar Babaji was sitting under this tree and his body was made of golden light and it glowed very brilliantly. His head and back had a huge halo and I saw halo’s rays of Golden Light reaching everywhere. His body was made up of stellar golden rays and He was sitting in a Lotus posture meditating in a samadhi!!**

One more example was cited by the Banyan tree to me and that was this- In the late sixties, Auroville township was being developed by The Mother of Pondicherry. A very big banyan tree was about to be cut as the land was being cleared. It pleaded to The Mother in a subtle state before its fate had to be decided. That night the Mother saw this tree in a dream who pleaded not to be cut as it was his desire to continue living near the meditation hall which was about to be constructed soon. The Mother responded to his appeal and the following day, instructions were given to the concerned person and the wish of the tree was fulfilled. I have been to this site and seen the meditation hall and the extraordinary, beautiful, huge banyan tree and I also had the privilege to sit under it for some time in Dec, 2002. A great amount of energy and vitality was received by me by just sitting under its massive canopy.

(Banyan tree in Auroville. Courtesy-Google images)

The Banyan Tree still continued filling me with abundant knowledge by telling me more.

Banyan Tree: “Each tree has prana according to his icchha Shakti. The more icchha Shakti, the more prana it will have. The prana is stored in its leaves.  As it grows bigger and bigger, it  will have more and more leaves to store prana. These trees have abundant prana  to give to others. So have icchha Shakti and grow in Atma and not in material.

Unless somebody possesses icchha Shakti, they cannot grow in Atma. Have icchha Shakti to grow in Atman and not desires to grow in material and worldly things. If you grow in Spirit you have power. Add power to your family, nation and planet like Babaji.  Babaji is like a massive Banyan Tree. He possesses ancient wisdom, eternal values and esoteric knowledge. He is Boddhi Sattva, one who has enlightenment of Truth, knower of eternal Truth. Follow Babaji and his teachings. Serve God the way he is serving God since time immemorial. This is the best service you can do to humanity and to God.”

He continued to bless me further by revealing to me, “Some extra ordinary Banyan Trees emit Super Conscious rays, they are old, very old unlike seasonal flowers. Most saints of today are like seasonal flowers but Mahavatar Babaji is like the Banyan Tree. The Banyan Trees and Babaji are both alike. They give us a new lease of life, vitality for health, spiritual progress and hasty evolution but silently. He likes to hide from public and do selfless service for God eternally.”

I was incredibly touched to have been chosen by this holy tree for spiritual enlightenment on an auspicious day like that one. I was elated and overwhelmed by this phase of enlightenment bestowed by the Banyan Tree and the following few days were full of fulfillment and tranquility……

How to increase the level of your consciousness?-III

#74

When the Chetna shakti of the individual joins and unites with Atma shakti or Universal Spirit, that is Super Consciousness. It takes place at Brahmarandra or crown chakra. All sacred knowledge, truth and divine illumination takes place at Brahmarandra. Illumination comes from God, beauty comes from God, and truth comes from God. The state in which there are no thoughts is called Nirvikalpa.  (How to increase the level of your consciousness –I)

“After arriving at this stage even the Guru is not there, only Brahma remains. At this stage there is the Absolute Truth, absolute Brahma, Immutable Brahma, Unchanging Atman our Spirit. It is the beginning of the search of the Truth. Brahma is the source of our origin. We must immerse in it again. So meditate on the Light of God! Meditate on the golden glow of illuminating Light!” (Ignite the flame of Illumination-II)

The state of Super Consciousness is reached by doing progressive meditation by which is meant that the aspirant must progress from lower chakra to the higher ones in meditation. One should start concentration from the solar plexus, then progress to heart and finally to the third eye. (How to increase the level of your consciousness-II)

Dear readers, as we progress with each post step by step, we are going higher on the levels of realization of Self. It becomes necessary for us to look back for a while and see the links that are present in preceding posts. For this reason I have quoted from the posts of previous segments at the start because all this is inter-connected. Keeping all the quotes in mind, let’s continue now from where we left last time. We were discussing progressive meditation to enlarge our present level of consciousness.

The third eye is the centre of divine perception, visions, supernatural powers and telepathy. It is called the third eye or spiritual eye because the human soul has the capacity to see beyond the normal eyes, an inherent faculty of unused power to see beyond the realms of physical world. This centre of concentration is named agya chakra in Yoga. It is a special door of knowledge where one can see, hear, know and feel in super normal ways without the use of one’s senses. Knowledge coming from this door can be depended upon wholly and one cannot go wrong in his judgment unlike the normal method of knowing and judging situations in normal circumstances. High frequency vibrations of sound and light are very well received at this point from the middle regions of astral world without any hindrance of earthly disruptions. Through third eye one can have a direct contact with the Higher Self.

Please know that the results of concentration attained by the seeker at the third eye is much slower than the preceding chakras and the progress is at a slower rate. Much work has to be done prior to the manifestation of its commendable results at this centre. Only persistence helps. Meditation at the agya chakra or the third eye should never be done alone but always under the guidance of a guru. Many people are casual about it and are misguided by their mentors. As with Kundalini Shakti, so with the third eye. The awakening of these two sacred centres should come as a grace from the gurus and not by obstinate efforts of oneself. The dangers are many, including the most prominent of opening the door to evil spirits and the lower worlds. Practices like tratak or concentration at one point, on that of a flame or lamp with the motive of gaining success in materialistic affairs or attaining supernatural powers can prove to be very harmful for the practitioner. One must learn concentration to control the restless senses and mind and get rid of the weaknesses; and we must meditate to attain self realization. The intention of any spiritual practice should be pure and progressive in nature. Invoking and installing of a deity, a guru or some image of God in the heart and the third eye is mandatory, more so if you have just begun. The initiation and commencement of this sacred act should be in the knowledge of a reliable guru.

Karna, the brave warrior and friend of Duryodhana in Mahabharat lied to his teacher Sage Parshuram about his history and background. On revelation at a later stage, Karna was cursed by his teacher for lying and hiding his background  from his Guru. There are spiritual laws which when defied result in very painful and detrimental results. Therefore, one should always be very humble and ego-less in all the spiritual efforts and give the highest status to the benevolent guru. It is in our own interest and safety that we follow the legacy or parampara of guru–shishya, teacher student tradition and succeed in our deliberate efforts.

From the position and center of the third eye, the spiritual voyage becomes exclusive as well as conclusive. When we concentrate at this point with our conscious will, we pull up the life force from the lower regions of the body to higher levels of concentration. The lower chakras deal chiefly with sustenance and survival actions. As humans have a very deep sense of survival instincts visible as ego, hatred, enmity, selfishness and self-centeredness, the consciousness of majority of people is centered there. Evidently, the vibrations of thoughts emitted from the lower chakras levels are gross and heavy. The knowledge base and capacity of understanding of majority of people is constricted and limited plus the vast horizons of higher consciousness untapped. The actions performed with constrained knowing and dim consciousness leads to unsatisfactory and impoverished results resulting in human race suffering in terms of mental unrest, confusion, lack of prosperity and success, physical as well as mental ailments, and as a whole they lead a directionless, purposeless and meaningless life. Sadly, such a typical life is repeated again and again by the human soul who never reflects or thinks and therefore fails to transform and convert himself into a higher being. This is the irony of humanity at large! Only a few have the desire to attempt to walk on the path of spiritual evolution and divinity. Ironically those people who do attempt lose interest after some time because the results of these efforts are slow to become visible and difficult to assess by the unaccomplished practitioner!

Nevertheless there are a few outstanding aspirants who are intelligent, patient, diligent and sincere too. They continue working towards their objective and higher aspirations. They just refuse to be re-born incarnations after incarnations into insignificant and meaningless existence in lower worlds and domains.

Hence it becomes imperative for us to understand very well as to why we need to put in so much effort and time today for self improvement and progress in a lifestyle which leaves us with little spare time. However, those people who are wise enough will invest their energies and time towards their development because they realize too well that if they do so, their future lives will be pious, peaceful and sacred. And their present lives will have a great meaning and purpose too.

Dear friends, so back to our original subject that we were discussing about concentration at the third eye. It takes longer time and practice to open this centre of consciousness because the effects of past accumulated karmas are very profound and erasing them takes extensive time and labour. There are many doors which must be opened one by one and these are doors of ignorance and darkness of many, many incarnations. As each door opens one after the other with clearing of small portion of ignorance, we begin to experience frequent patches and periods of calmness, mental peace and devotion in our life. Once the agya chakra is cleaned by God and Guru’s Grace, the dormant Kundalini Shakti awakens by itself and the prana or vital force starts to flow freely in the spinal cord within some time without any hindrance or blockage. This process recharges and electrifies the spinal column and the nervous system as well and the prana reaches the seat of Super consciousness– the Crown Chakra with the help of excess force given by Kundalini. But please remember this, it is not a hurried affair and process. It is going to take you quite some time depending on many factors which may be discussed at some other time in a later post soon.  Next…

The Crown Chakra or Brahmarandr- Brahma means God, randra means a hole. It is the region of receiving Super Conscious vibrations from the celestial worlds. The uppermost part of the cerebrum is very sacred for the reason that it is here that the knowledge of sacred Brahma is received and established. It is the centre and seat meant for only one purpose- to receive spiritual realizations, illumination and knowledge in the form of astral rays of divinity through the very fine nerves present in the nervous system from the highest skies or astral worlds on the human form. It is received in the upper cerebrum which acts as an antenna, the human receiver and transmitter. Sincere prayers, affirmations and aspirations from this state are heard and manifested without any delay. It is a very potent and powerful centre and must be utilized for self growth and world transformation.

No physical or gross activity is done from this centre of vast learning. If one learns to concentrates at this sacred point, the knot of breath and mind is broken and the breath stops for a while.

Cessation of breath leads to Super Consciousness.

It is a stage of absence of thoughts as the connection of the Spirit breaks from the body temporarily and we are in a state of Cosmic Spirit. The ultimate aim of any Kriya and Pranayaam is to untie the knot of prana and manas– vital force and mind. We shall discuss this in little more detail later in future articles. This particular advanced stage is termed as Samadhi and is hard to attain by one’s own efforts but easy to achieve for humble, sincere and devoted disciples as a Grace from their benevolent, merciful gurus. Arjuna experienced the Cosmic form of the Universal God during a war on a battlefield of Kurukshetra!! The Grace of Krishna was spontaneous and it flowed out of divine love for Arjuna who had a sacred heart and undying love for his mentor, Guru and teacher and beloved friend Krishna!!

The Crown Chakra is the place of receiving abundant Cosmic Light without any hindrance or obstacle. So all the knowledge that comes from the higher skies or celestial kingdom is in the form of Cosmic Light first which instantaneously translates into human intellect and comprehension. Hence knowledge received in this method is infallible while the world’s method of  knowledge procurement is from the middle level and order- the intellectual level. It cannot be relied upon so  many times and is not complete in wholeness.

If we learn to begin to operate from the higher state and level of Super Consciousness and Cosmic Light, all our actions are going to be of divine wisdom, love, understanding and compassion. It is stage of perfection or boddhi sattva. All human stride should be in this direction to circumvent disorder, hatred and mayhem so prevalent in our world. If we cannot change the present world we can change the world within ourselves. We can definitely make our inner world pious, peaceful and divine. The real purpose of each human incarnation is to move somewhat nearer to this supreme goal and not to drift aimlessly or regress in lower consciousness. The real purpose of spirituality is again the same- to rid our consciousness of the lingering ignorance of our divinity and sanctity. Each incarnation is a big lesson to learn, each life is an opportunity to learn our next lesson. We are given incarnations after incarnations to live until we understand fully well that the real purpose of our life is to reveal the divinity present in us. We should therefore make all possible tireless and persistent efforts everyday in some manner to push our present life in that sacred direction.

How to increase the level of your consciousness- II?

#73

Today, the sixth day of the last month December, two thousand ten.

A day of complete surrender and undivided calmness and peace.

A day of renunciation of slightest personal will or individual desire.

A new dawn, a new beginning, a new start of my wonderful life.

A day full of inspiration, a day without any slight worry of future.

No note of discord, only notes of harmony, sweet music and melody of joy.

A life so new as though I read the pages of new stories of a new printed book!

As I say these words, before this there was a circle of opulent beatific Light.

Gathered in me between the two eyes of mine at kutashtha or third eye.

Pale yellow it was, within some instants it vanished and went back in the blue sky.

This is not any poem but the Great Masters’ Grace who are watching over us.

Giving us enlightenment, solutions and raising us to consciousness of higher level .

O lord of mine! Surrender, complete surrender to you,

I do today; I bow to you completely at Thy Holy Feet.

May You and I always be one like the wood and holy Vedic Fire.

The big woods burn in the flames of fire but in the end.

Where is the wood? Only fire.

May I burn like the sandal incense.

Soothing, sweet fragrance it has and calming touch.

And healing properties of inner soul.

Once all burnt, only deep fragrance left.

In the house, in the mind and in the remaining Soul.

May I too, Oh my beloved Lord! Burn like the incense,

Spread your Light, happiness and delight everywhere.

And emancipating knowledge of the Supreme to who are worthy.

But forever live in the inner chambers of your benevolent heart!

Hidden from the eyes of the people malevolent everywhere.

Yet I will serve them, my kind compassionate Master.

By serving them I express my love for You, my Beloved.

My life is fully devoted to you, even my each and every breath.

How can I express my deepest gratitude for Your arrival as Light?

The expression of my gratitude towards you can only be expressed,

In a very simple, humble way with these words in the morning of today!!

(Kumari Devi Temple in Kathmandu, Nepal)

There are 3 stages of a seeker or sadhak while advancing on his way up and they are-

  •    The stage of knowing
  •     the stage of practice &
  •     the stage of perfection.

First of all, the beginner becomes familiar with the efforts and the course of action to be taken.

Once that is known, the target set and the practice begins.

Through practice is attained perfection to reach the kingdom of God .

There are 3 stages of development and transformation of the mind towards its perfection-

  • Concentration- to stop wandering and scattering of the mind
  • Stilling the mind- to silence it &
  • Lastly the Transcendental stage- to reach the stage of Super Consciousness and practice of being in the Super Consciousness state as much as possible.

Concentration-By nature, the flow of the energy of the mind of all people is outward. The energy flows out through the five senses. Remember, the mind is first controlled by the senses. The senses are controlled by self control, self discipline and obedience to the Spiritual Master. The senses diffuse the mind in all directions and blind our intellect and reasoning so the first lesson in concentration is controlling the senses. The ideal way of controlling the senses is meditation whereby one disciplines himself by not moving the body, closing the eyes and stopping the mundane activities of the mind by concentration on a divine figure, a flame or light or his sacred guru. An expert master will emphasize on controlling the senses and all desires and will teach the student to practice this discipline with all his might and strength.

Once the senses are in good control, the mind becomes calm. In Bhagwad Geeta, Lord Krishna emphasized great  importance of controlling the senses by which the mind’s restlessness and agitation could be ceased. It could then be made to concentrate at one point and that is the point between the two eyebrows, the centre of concentration.

The method by which the mind is focused at one spot or point by stopping it from dissipating is called concentration. Concentration leads to meditation.

Deep concentration is achieved by constant and regular practice.

Practice makes one perfect.

Those of us who are very much keen for self-transformation must try to reach their destination of self knowledge and self realization by the following helpful practices-

Here are five helpful points for practice to increase the level of our understanding and consciousness for the aspiring sadhaks. It can be done at home and workplace by mentally keeping the omnipresent Guru in your heart. Before you begin this practice, remember the revered Masters so that their invisible yet profound help and guidance reach you in all possible manner. Besides, their protection is acquired to act as a shield against all possible dangers in your path. Although most of us are leading a very fast and hectic lifestyle, yet we can continue practicing the given sadhana for our well being, self transformation and empowerment. So let’s begin with a very simple and practical step.

1.Reflect back the bad vibes that people throw at you. Do not absorb or reverberate the bad vibes, thoughts or ideas that people plant in your mind. Though it is not possible to keep away from people in this world completely, we can definitely cut off the unwanted thought power coming from them in the form of bad vibrations and bad thoughts. After interaction with them, clear your mind of their impact of their sanskaras, karmas effects. Live in an equipoise state of mind. If you happen to fail, rise again.

Stay like a lotus flower in this world. In spite of so much impurity around us, a true yogi, with continuous practice of bringing the mind back on the centre of God, attains peace and tranquility.

2. Create a reliable source, a sanctuary inside you to retreat. Inside the cave of your heart dwells peace and silence. Underneath the innermost layers of your mind is complete calmness. Create a sacred space inside filled with soothing peace and comfort.

3. Practice stillness of mind. Minimize fruitless activities like unnecessary socializing, entertainment and gossip in workplace and at home. Instead visualize your dream future and begin to act on it now with a few initial steps. As an aspirant, if you wish to become intuitive or an advanced meditator, you must begin now. Meditate for fifteen minutes in the morning hours and fifteen minutes in the evening or before sleeping at night. Slowly increase the time. Once you get in the compulsive habit of meditating, make your meditation more dynamic and intensive. Quality of meditation is more important than quantity. Stop your mind from scattering or agitating and in its place continuously practice calming and stilling the mind. Once you achieve this target, practice prolonging that stillness. During periods of stillness, hold on to the gentle peace that prevails.

In stillness of mind, ego is erased.

The more deeper you go, the more peace you will attain. Practice is required by the seeker to touch the deeper levels of the mind. Practice is the key word.

About the power of concentration.

There is a story in Mahabharat about the Master archer Arjun. Young Pandavas and Kaurvas were being given warrior training in the forest by their teacher Dronacharya. A dummy wooden bird was hung from a branch of a tree and all the students were asked by the master to hit the eye of the bird with their bow and arrow for archery practice. One by one, the students came forward. The master asked each student “What do you see?” Someone said that he saw the tree, the other said that he could see the bird, the leaves of the tree and so on. They all were asked to step aside. When Arjun was called out and asked what did he see, he very categorically said, “Master, I only see the eye of the bird”. Dronacharya was very pleased with the perfect answer and asked him to hit the bird with his arrow. He was overwhelmed by Arjun’s immense concentration and predicted that one day he would become the finest archer in the world.

When the swayamvar or contest of Draupadi took place, Arjun was able to win Draupadi’s hand in marriage because of his exceptional concentration. It was only him who could aim and hit at the eye of a revolving fish in oil’s reflection. As a child Arjun’s concentration was unfaltering and he spent all his energy by practicing it while others played. In future he became an expert marksman of that time.

A person who does one pointed concentration for a long duration with devotion is blessed with the opening of the third eye by Guru’s grace. Like a bird, the practitioner can fly in the limitless skies of Super consciousness far and wide. So, seekers should learn to concentrate like Arjuna and must improve and perfect the art of concentration.

4. Have a noble goal, a very big mission in life work towards it till those goals are met. If you have a goal of plunging and penetrating into higher dimensions and realms of your Spirit, then harbour and realize those beautiful dreams. Raise your consciousness in every thought and deed from the current level to the desired one. Look up to a great saint, a realized being and move towards your mission.

5. Practice meditation without fail. Sacrifice and give up food, a conversation with your friend, a movie or a party for the sake of learning the art of meditation and give it the top most priority if you want to achieve and succeed in all walks of life. Begin with concentration. Teach the mind to sit still and not fidget all the time. Stop its aimless wandering and meandering in the valleys and mountains of the mind. Do not allow the thoughts to float like helpless white clouds in the sky without any specific direction. Bring back and rivet the mind to the centre of Consciousness.

The state of Super Consciousness is reached by doing progressive meditation by which is meant that the aspirant must progress from lower chakra to the higher ones in meditation. One should start concentration from the solar plexus, then progress to heart and finally to the third eye.

# Concentration at the solar plexus. Concentrate and fix the mind in one firm place, the place of awakening and aspiring, the solar plexus. It is the center of agni  or fire and aspiring. So ignite and awaken a flame of aspiration during meditation. Pray fervently. Plead God to give you the strength to aspire, aspire and aspire more. Pray to God to help you to walk and climb the steps towards Spirit one by one without any hurdle. Pray that all the hurdles be removed one by one so that you may tread freely and quickly. Some people may experience too much heat after prolonged meditation at this centre. Please discontinue this practice and shift to the next higher chakra, the heart.

# Concentration at the heart chakra. Clean the heart chakra by being generous in forgiving people. Real happiness and felicity will be attained when we forgive all those who were and are not kind and good to us. Once you forgive and move on in life and look forward to your bright future, you will attain calmness and poise. Practice sending out love to people who are in need and also to those who have negative feelings for you. Cleaning this centre accelerates the development of devotion towards God and humanity as a whole.

# Concentration at the third eye. Arouse your mind to make it alert, intuitive and subtle by concentrating at this sensitive place. This is possible if you concentrate regularly at the place between the eyebrows. It may bring some discomfort in the beginning but with continuous and long practice, it will vanish. Do it for ten minutes in morning and for ten minutes in evening and the duration like all other disciplines may be lengthened.

Along with this, if some of the readers who are very keen and interested in burning past karmas very quickly, then they must purify the merudand or the spinal cord by Kriya and Pranayam, but under some guidance of a teacher. Impurities of past karmas are deposited at various levels of the spinal cord technically called chakras  or energy centres.

Also silent praying, chanting of mantras, yogic practice of pranayaam, kriya and continuous remembrance of a godly figure purifies the inside of the spinal cord thereby clearing the debris of karmas of past life incarnations.

To be continued…

P.S. The first picture on the post is of Kumari Devi Temple in Kathmandu, an incarnation of goddess Durga worshiped by Hindus and Nepali Buddhists alike. If you noticed, there is a stupa at the bottom, then the face with very prominent eyes and finally a very tall golden tower (which could not be accommodated in the frame of the camera.) It looks like a pyramid and can be compared to the pyramid of chakras on which the humans ascend on the evolution path.

The second picture is of meditating Buddha and has a similar design representing the ascending steps like a pyramid.
